Food and Energy Self-Sufficiency is the Foundation of National Independence; the Government is Preparing Integrated Policies.
Jakarta — The government continues to accelerate structural transformation toward national independence by strengthening the food and energy sectors. This effort is considered a strategic step to strengthen national resilience, both in times of peace and in the face of increasingly complex global uncertainties.
Economist and Executive Director of the Segara Research Institute, Peter Abdullah, emphasized that food and energy self-sufficiency is a priority that cannot be postponed if Indonesia wants to achieve long-term resilience.
“The government’s efforts to achieve national independence through food and energy self-sufficiency are a strategic step in strengthening national resilience. This applies not only in normal situations but also in the face of increasingly frequent global crises,” he said.
Peter added that the government’s seriousness is evident from various policies that support the development of the agricultural sector, food security, and renewable energy.
This is part of a grand vision for national economic transformation, which aims to create sustainable jobs and increase added value domestically.
“The current government is demonstrating its commitment to strengthening the agricultural and renewable energy sectors. This is not only about meeting domestic needs, but also about laying the foundation for a strong, independent, and environmentally friendly economy,” Peter explained.
He also emphasized that the success of the self-sufficiency program cannot be measured solely by the size of land or production volume.
According to him, management quality, distribution efficiency, and price certainty for farmers and business actors are important factors in determining long-term success.
“The government is starting to design integrated, data-driven policies, from upstream to downstream. This is crucial to ensuring an efficient and sustainable food and energy ecosystem. Moving forward, management must be more professional, transparent, and targeted,” Peter emphasized.
In his view, self-sufficiency is not an instant project but rather part of a long-term vision to realize economic sovereignty.
He believes that this strategic approach will strengthen logistics resilience, maintain national stability, and build independence amidst global economic turmoil.
“Self-sufficiency is not a short-term goal, but the foundation of national independence. The government is building a robust and sustainable system to support the nation’s stability in the future,” Peter concluded.
Through various agricultural infrastructure development programs, bioenergy expansion, and investment in production technology, the government is optimistic about realizing Indonesia as a country that stands on its own strength, is sovereign, competitive, and independent.
