Forms Task Force, Government Commits to Eradicating Online Gambling
Jakarta – President Joko Widodo officially formed a Task Force to eradicate online gambling which is increasingly widespread in Indonesia. The task force was directly chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto.
Regarding this, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Hadi Tjahjanto, revealed that the Government had blocked 5,000 suspicious accounts related to online gambling. This is based on a report from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).
“According to the PPATK report, there are 4,000 to 5,000 suspicious accounts that have been blocked,” said Hadi
The findings were then conveyed to the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit investigators to be frozen.
“The follow-up action is for PPATK to immediately report it to Bareskrim Polri investigators. “After being reported to Bareskrim investigators, Bareskrim investigators will freeze the account,” he continued.
The Online Gambling Eradication Task Force then continued that the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit had the authority to announce the blocking of the account within 30 days.
“After 30 days of no one reporting the freeze, based on the district court’s decision, we will take the cash assets in the account and hand them over to the state,” said Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto.
For your information, the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force involves many institutions, including the Ministry of Religion, Attorney General’s Office, TNI, Polri, Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).
Separately, the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo), Budi Arie Setiadi, emphasized the Government’s commitment to eradicating online gambling.
“The country cannot afford to lose. “This crime really damages the family economy, damages the social environment, and also fosters crime,” said Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi.
Furthermore, the Minister of Communication and Information estimates that the recent increase in crime rates is thought to be related to the widespread practice of online gambling.
As is known, the case of death due to online gambling happened to TNI member First Lieutenant Laut Eko Damara (30). Meanwhile, recently, the online gambling case also triggered a Domestic Violence (KDRT) case committed by police officers in East Java which caused the victim to die horribly.
The formation of the online gambling task force is proof that the government is serious about protecting its people from becoming victims of online gambling.
