Fuel Monitoring Tightened During Ramadan to Anticipate Surge in Consumption

Jakarta – The government, through the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas), is strengthening supervision of fuel oil (BBM) stocks and distribution during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.

This strengthening is part of the government’s strategic steps to anticipate a surge in energy consumption as people’s mobility increases during the homecoming and long holiday periods.

The Head of BPH Migas, Wahyudi Anas, emphasized that supervision is carried out intensively through cross-sector coordination and direct monitoring in the field.

“We are strictly monitoring the availability and distribution of fuel during Ramadan and the lead-up to Eid al-Fitr 1447 H. Based on the current figures, God willing, fuel stocks are safe and under control,” he said while attending the House of Representatives Commission XII’s recess working visit to Bali.

As of February 19, 2026, the realization of fuel distribution was still within the corridor of the initial year’s planning, namely kerosene 12.84 percent of the quota, diesel oil 13.22 percent, and Pertalite 12.19 percent.

This figure reflects that distribution is proceeding according to projections and is an indicator of national readiness to face increased consumption.

Coordination is also being strengthened with PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, especially in areas with potential consumption spikes, such as the Trans Java Toll Road, which is estimated to increase by 25–30 percent compared to normal days.

Crucial points include the Cipali (Subang–Indramayu) section, Semarang–Solo (Boyolali), and the Solo–Yogyakarta (Colomadu) junction. Additionally, the Merak–Bakauheni and Ketapang–Gilimanuk crossings, as well as homecoming destinations such as Yogyakarta, Greater Solo, Surabaya, Greater Malang, Banyumas, and Bandung, are also the focus of monitoring.

Chairman of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Bambang Patijaya, stated that his party appreciated the anticipatory steps taken by the government and BPH Migas.

“This working visit is part of the House of Representatives’ oversight function to ensure the readiness of the national energy supply. We want assurance that the public will not experience fuel or LPG supply issues during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. Based on the information we received, mitigation measures have been well prepared,” he said.

At the regional level, readiness was also demonstrated by PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sulawesi through the Sales Area Manager (SAM) Retail Southeast Sulawesi, Agung Surya Pranata.

He ensured that energy supplies in Southeast Sulawesi are secure, with a stock of 5–11 days, supported by four fuel terminals in Kendari, Kolaka, Baubau, and Raha.

“We’ve put all distribution agencies on alert. We predict a 6 to 8 percent increase in fuel and LPG consumption, and we’ve anticipated this through the Ramadan-Eid al-Fitr Task Force, strengthening stocks, and adding 24-hour standby gas stations at strategic locations,” Agung said.

Pertamina is also preparing modular gas stations, providing motorized services at congestion points, and ensuring that selling prices remain in accordance with government regulations.

With multi-layered supervision and central-regional synergy, the government is optimistic that the public’s energy needs during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1447 H can be met safely, smoothly, and under control.
