Government Accelerates Development of Public School Infrastructure to Ensure Equal Access to Education
JAKARTA – The government continues to demonstrate its commitment to expanding equitable and quality access to education by accelerating the development of Public School (SR) infrastructure as part of the Phase II Public School Program. This strategic step is concrete evidence of the government’s efforts to ensure that all Indonesian children, without exception, have the opportunity to learn in a modern, safe environment that meets future educational standards.
The Ministry of Public Works (PU) announced that the Phase II Public School development has now entered the construction phase after the successful completion of the renovation of 165 Pioneer Public Schools in the first phase. This follow-up program covers 104 locations across various provinces. PU Minister Dody Hanggodo emphasized that this project is a crucial part of achieving equal access to education.
“The government is accelerating the development of Public Schools as a commitment to providing equal access to education throughout Indonesia,” he said.
Several regions have begun construction, including Gunung Mas Regency in Central Kalimantan, Katingan Regency, East Kotawaringin Regency, and Palangka Raya City. South Kalimantan also showed positive progress in Banjarbaru, Barito Kuala, and Tanah Bumbu. South Sulawesi was one of the fastest regions in terms of land preparation and technical documentation, allowing construction to proceed in the regencies of Soppeng, Wajo, Barru, Sidrap, Tana Toraja, Bone, Sinjai, Takalar, and Makassar City.
Minister Dody added that the government ensures that development is carried out in accordance with safety and sustainability standards.
“All packages that have entered the construction phase meet readiness criteria, from land security to complete spatial planning and environmental documents,” he emphasized.
According to him, fulfilling documents such as AMDAL (Environmental Impact Assessment), UKL-UPL (Environmental Impact Assessment and Development Plan), and Building Construction Approval (PBG) is crucial to ensuring the quality and accuracy of construction implementation.
The Public School Program Phase II is designed to accommodate up to 112,320 students through 3,744 study groups, covering elementary, junior high, and high school levels. Each school is built on 5–10 hectares of land prepared by the local government and is targeted to be operational in the 2026/2027 academic year. Modern facilities have been prepared, including technology-based classrooms, skills laboratories, digital literacy centers, sports facilities, a healthy canteen, and a student health clinic.
The General Manager of ADHI’s Building Department, Bagus Prima Anugerah, emphasized the company’s full support for the accelerated development of the People’s Schools.
“ADHI is committed to supporting the accelerated development of quality educational facilities as our contribution to strengthening Indonesia’s human resources,” he said.
The implementation of healthy, adaptive, and energy-efficient building principles is a key focus of the development. By accelerating the development of this educational infrastructure, the government hopes that the People’s Schools can become a key pillar in producing a competent, character-based young generation ready to compete at the national and global levels. This step also emphasizes that equitable education is a priority that must be continuously pursued for a more inclusive and advanced future for Indonesia.
