Jakarta – The government remains committed to providing decent housing for low-income communities (MBR) through a subsidized housing program designed to meet building quality standards and environmental comfort. This effort was reaffirmed during a visit by Presidential Chief of Staff Muhammad Qodari to the Pondok Banten Indah Housing Complex in Serang, Banten, as part of preparations for the mass contracting ceremony of 50,000 housing units, which will be attended by President Prabowo Subianto on December 18, 2025.

Qodari directly inspected the physical condition of the buildings, supporting infrastructure, and the environmental layout of the area. He also spoke with several residents who have lived in the area for four to five months. After observing the situation firsthand, Qodari assessed that the quality of the subsidized housing at the location meets the government’s standards.

“This is preparation for the mass contracting ceremony for 50,000 houses, which, God willing, the President will attend. So, this is a preparatory meeting leading up to the event,” he said.

Qodari emphasized that the government wants subsidized housing to not only be available, but also truly habitable and provide a sense of security and comfort for low-income families (MBR). He stated that national housing demand continues to increase, making quality a key factor that must be maintained.
“Our housing needs are high and the pace continues to rise. I visited earlier and saw the housing; in my opinion, it’s good, well-organized, and of good quality,” said Qodari.

In addition to inspecting the facilities and buildings, Qodari also spoke with residents, one of whom was Iman Mutaqin (29), an expedition driver who has moved into a subsidized housing unit with a mortgage scheme and installments of Rp 1.2 million per month for 15 years. He believes the location and quality of the housing are very helpful for workers like himself. According to Qodari, positive testimonials from residents are an indicator that the subsidized housing program is working as expected.

“His name is Mr. Iman, a logistics driver. He works about 3 kilometers from here, a 15-minute motorbike ride if slow,” he said.

On that occasion, Qodari also expressed his hope that the quality of subsidized housing in Banten could serve as a benchmark for similar projects in other regions. He was optimistic that if all stakeholders maintained quality standards, the low-income housing (MBR) would benefit maximally from this program.

“Hopefully, what we’ve seen today can serve as an example for other housing projects, so that all subsidized housing is of high quality, and low-income communities can achieve the best possible results,” he said.

Qodari also emphasized that the success of low-income housing development requires comprehensive collaboration between technical ministries, developers, and local governments. He mentioned the Ministry of PKP as the party coordinating the program’s implementation, along with the Tapera Development Agency (BP Tapera) and developers.

“This is all hard work, a large housing ecosystem. The director is the Ministry of PKP, led by Mr. Maruarar Sirait, and all parties present here,” he said.

The inspection by the Presidential Chief of Staff was also attended by representatives from the Ministry of PKP, BP Tapera Commissioner Heru Pudyo Nugroho, and the President Director of PT Kawah Anugrah Properti, Muhammad Ridwan, representing the developer. The presence of these various elements demonstrates that the government is ensuring that subsidized housing is not only built in quantity, but also meets appropriate quality standards for low-income families (MBR) in the long term.***
