Government Confirms Online Gambling Eradication Will Continue
Jakarta – The government has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the comprehensive eradication of online gambling through cross-agency collaboration.
This effort is now strengthened by the launch of Operation Honeybee by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) as an integrated strategy to combat corruption and online gambling.
PPATK Deputy for Analysis and Examination, Danang Tri Hartono, explained that this operation stems from the awareness of the importance of optimally utilizing financial intelligence data.
“The PPATK database is like information nectar that is processed into information honey, namely financial intelligence products for the prevention and eradication of corruption and online gambling,” he said.
Danang emphasized that Operation Honeybee aims to build data-based collaboration between agencies so that any indication of suspicious transactions can be followed up quickly and measurably.
“Through this operation, PPATK wants to ensure that the utilization of financial intelligence data does not stop at the analysis stage, but becomes the basis for policies, legal actions, and the enforcement of civil servant discipline,” he said.
Furthermore, PPATK analysis shows that online gambling funds circulated from 2017 to the first semester of 2025, reaching IDR 976.8 trillion, with more than 709 million transactions.
Ironically, more than 51,000 online gamblers are civil servants (ASN).
“Online gambling is growing rapidly and has become a national socio-economic threat,” said Danang.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) continues to strengthen measures to cut off access to online gambling sites and transactions.
Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid revealed that the government, together with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), has blocked 23,929 accounts involved in these illegal activities.
“We want to ensure that the flow of funds from illegal activities like online gambling is completely cut off,” Meutya emphasized.
She also encouraged the public to actively report sites, accounts, or accounts suspected of online gambling through the channels aduankonten.id and cekrekening.id.
Support also came from the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polkam).
Syaiful Garyadi, Assistant Deputy for Data Protection and Electronic Transactions Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, emphasized that online gambling is a criminal organization with significant financial power.
“They have so much money that they can recruit smart human resources and access paid technology. As a result, prevention technology will always lag behind these criminal organizations,” he said.
He emphasized that research from academics needs to be directed at the issue of eradicating online gambling so that the results can be directly used to support the government.
