Government Encourages Synergy in MSME and Creative Economy Empowerment

Jakarta — The government continues to strengthen synergy among various institutions to enhance the empowerment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and the creative economy sector, as part of efforts to boost national economic growth. This step is considered vital for accelerating economic recovery and enabling MSMEs to compete in global markets.

Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, Maman Abdurrahman, emphasized that MSME actors in Indonesia face diverse challenges, ranging from production capacity to access to international markets.

“A comprehensive mapping of MSME challenges is crucial so that the government can design the right interventions. This includes financial support, technology training, and product standardization processes,” Maman stated.

He further highlighted the importance of strengthening production capacity and product standardization as key factors for enabling MSMEs to compete globally. The government remains committed to helping MSME players maximize local commodities and other creative products that hold strong potential in international markets.

One concrete example of such synergy is the collaboration between the Ministry of MSMEs and the West Kalimantan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN). Through this partnership, regional flagship products such as kratom and arowana fish are expected to achieve higher quality standards, allowing them to enter export markets more systematically and sustainably.

Minister Maman added that enhancing flagship commodities not only brings positive economic impacts to regions but also improves the competitiveness of MSME products in global markets.

Cross-sector collaboration is also a key element in advancing MSMEs and the creative economy. Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, stressed that Indonesia’s tourism sector—largely driven by MSMEs—requires special attention in developing creative economic potential.

“The Ministry of Tourism is committed to strengthening the MSME ecosystem that supports tourism through strategic programs such as tourism attraction curation and business assistance,” Widiyanti said.

She added that Muslim-friendly tourism and marine tourism, which involve MSMEs and creative products, will be prioritized in development—aligned with the rising international demand for unique and authentic products. This approach is expected to open new market opportunities for MSMEs and strengthen Indonesia’s position as a sustainable global tourism destination.

Synergy between the government and business actors is also expected to broaden MSME product access through public broadcasting. Deputy Chair of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Evita Nursanty, stated that the role of Public Broadcasting Institutions (LPP) TVRI, RRI, and the National News Agency ANTARA in supporting MSME product promotion needs to be strengthened.

“By utilizing public media, MSMEs can gain wider broadcast exposure, enabling their products to reach more consumers both domestically and internationally,” Evita explained.

This effort also includes the digitalization of broadcasting services and strengthening collaboration between the central and regional governments to ensure equal access for MSME players, particularly in frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) regions. With strong collaboration between the government, broadcasting institutions, and business actors, Indonesia’s MSMEs and creative economy are expected to grow more rapidly and become key drivers of the national economy.
