JAKARTA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining integrity and clean governance in all disaster management and recovery efforts. The President delivered this message while delivering a directive at the National Assistance Post for Aceh Natural Disaster Management at Sultan Iskandar Air Force Base, following the floods and landslides that hit Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

The President asked all his staff to understand that this disaster must be viewed as a national issue that requires comprehensive handling.

“We must see a broader perspective. So, we must understand that when there are trials, we must also consider the nation’s larger problems,” he said on Monday (December 8, 2025).

He emphasized that all state resources must be managed responsibly. The President emphasized that there is no room for corrupt practices in disaster management, considering that all aid and budgets are intended entirely for the benefit of the affected communities.

“I remind you that there must be no misappropriation, no corruption in any government entity,” he emphasized.

President Prabowo added that he would not tolerate any party seeking to profit from the people’s suffering.

“I don’t want any party exploiting this disaster to enrich themselves. I will take very strong action,” he emphasized.

He also instructed the police and local governments to actively monitor and follow up on any indication of fraud in accordance with legal provisions.

“No one should seek to profit from the people’s suffering. So, the police, all parties, investigate. Local governments, take note of any misconduct, such as inflating prices, and so on,” the President concluded.

Soedeson Tandra, a member of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), from the Golkar faction, also supported the government’s firm stance. He considered the President’s action an important instrument to ensure that all aid for victims is distributed appropriately.

“Yes, frankly, we support what the President said,” he said in Jakarta, Tuesday (December 9, 2025).

Soedeson emphasized that disaster funds must be received directly by the entitled parties. However, he reminded law enforcement officials not to criminalize the use of funds during an emergency, as long as they are used properly. He said the President’s stance should be understood as an encouragement to strengthen oversight. “So, we must take the President’s message as an effort, a hope,” he concluded.****
