Jakarta – The Indonesian government continues to demonstrate its commitment to eradicating online gambling, which has increasingly caused public concern. Minister of Law and Human Rights, Supratman Andi Agtas, stated that a Government Regulation (PP) specifically addressing online gambling is currently undergoing harmonization at his ministry. He assured that the regulation would be completed in the near future.

“It is currently in the harmonization process and will be finalized soon. The Ministry of Law has been tasked with leading this harmonization,” Supratman said during a press briefing at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Jakarta.

He emphasized that tackling online gambling is a top priority due to its significant social impact. President Prabowo Subianto, he added, has issued clear directives for firm preventive action against such activities.

“President Prabowo has stressed the importance of preventive efforts, as the impact of online gambling is extremely harmful,” he added. Supratman is currently awaiting the final report from the Directorate General of Legislation regarding the substance of the regulation, which is being finalized across several ministries.

Previously, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, also announced that President Prabowo would soon issue a Government Regulation to strengthen the enforcement of anti-online gambling measures. She explained that the upcoming regulation would reinforce the government’s authority to remove related content from digital platforms.

“The President has once again addressed the issue of online gambling enforcement, and one of the imminent steps will be the issuance of a regulation, likely in the form of a PP, to strengthen efforts against online gambling,” Meutya stated after attending a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Palace.

Meutya further emphasized that all digital platforms must comply with existing laws. She stressed that content related to online gambling and pornography must be blocked immediately and without exception.

“Combating online gambling is a continuous effort. This is not just our responsibility but also involves the police, prosecutors, and other relevant stakeholders,” she asserted.

The government’s swift action has received positive responses from various segments of society, who view the upcoming regulation as a critical legal framework in the systematic and effective eradication of increasingly sophisticated and clandestine online gambling networks.
