Government Focuses on MSMEs as the Engine of Inclusive Economy
Jakarta — The government reaffirms its commitment to making Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) the main driving force of an inclusive economy. With a significant contribution to the national economy, MSMEs are seen not only as supporting growth but also as strengthening family and regional economic resilience.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, emphasized the importance of strengthening digital-based data to help MSMEs move up the value chain.
“MSMEs must be well documented through a digitalization system. The government stresses the importance of MSME data, which amounts to more than 50 million, as a foundation, because the priority is not only national economic growth but also family economy. If the family economy is strong, the national economy will be more secure,” he said.
In addition to strengthening data, the government is also expanding financing access through the People’s Business Credit (KUR) scheme. This scheme is expected to open greater opportunities for business actors to develop their businesses.
Airlangga added that digital transformation also supports growth, including through the use of digital payments utilized by MSMEs under SRC guidance.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) also prioritizes the sustainability of MSMEs in the digital space. Deputy Minister Nezar Patria emphasized that the digital ecosystem must be healthy and safe to be optimally utilized.
“We will build communication and understand the needs of MSMEs as well as community activities that use digital platforms. Existing features can continue to be utilized to support economic activities,” Nezar explained.
He added that the government wants to ensure a balance between freedom of expression and public safety in the digital space.
From the banking side, Bank Mandiri strengthens support for MSMEs through the placement of Excess Budget Funds (SAL) amounting to IDR 55 trillion from the Ministry of Finance.
Corporate Banking Director M. Rizaldi stated, “This fund placement strengthens Bank Mandiri’s liquidity and financing capacity to increase credit distribution to government priority sectors, especially MSMEs.”
He added that credit to the MSME segment recorded a 12.6% year-on-year growth in the second quarter of 2025, higher than the industry average. Disbursement is also directed to productive sectors such as trade, labor-intensive industries, and food and beverage.
With the collaboration of government policies, banking support, and digital transformation, MSMEs are believed to be increasingly ready to become the engine of an inclusive economy that strengthens the foundation of national growth.
