Jakarta – In a strategic step to strengthen Indonesia’s position in international trade relations, the government has officially formed the Trump Tariff Negotiation Task Force.

This task force is tasked with formulating and implementing an effective trade diplomacy strategy in response to the new tariff policy imposed by the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, said the government has formed three Task Forces to accelerate the reciprocal tariff negotiation process set by US President Donald Trump.

“The President has approved the formation of three task forces,” said Airlangga in his statement.

Airlangga explained that the negotiations between the Indonesian and US governments aim to achieve a win-win solution or mutually beneficial agreement. In addition, this negotiation step is in accordance with the President’s direction which emphasizes the importance of not discriminating between countries in trade policies.

“Geopolitically, of course Indonesia is considered important by America,” he said.

Furthermore, the government will also form a Policy Deregulation Task Force to adjust domestic policies to global challenges.

“Deregulation is all that was directed by the President yesterday, both related to exports, imports, and TKDN related to information and communication technology (ICT),” said Airlangga.

Meanwhile, Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg), Prasetyo Hadi, stated that the government is still formulating important points as the basis for the formation of the presidential decree. The three Task Forces are expected to be able to strengthen the investment climate and accelerate business licensing.

“So until today we are still formulating the points that will be regulated in the deregulation processes,” he explained.

President Prabowo has also approved the formation of the three Task Forces as a form of the government’s seriousness in facing global trade challenges proactively and in a structured manner. An inclusive economic diplomacy approach based on long-term interests is expected to be able to turn tariff pressures into strategic opportunities.

The government is optimistic that with cross-ministerial cooperation, commitment to deregulation, and the right negotiation strategy, Indonesia can face Trump’s tariff policy effectively. This step reflects Indonesia’s readiness to adapt and continue to grow amidst the dynamics of global trade.
