Government Launches 24 T Stimulus to Keep Economic Growth Stable
Jakarta, – The Indonesian government has officially rolled out an economic stimulus package worth Rp24.4 trillion to maintain the stability of national economic growth. This stimulus was launched in response to the potential slowdown in consumption and external threats looming over the national economy.
The Ministry of Finance said that the stimulus was designed to strengthen household consumption and boost people’s purchasing power in June and July 2025. In addition, this step also aims to encourage economic growth in the second quarter to remain close to 5 percent, following the realization of growth in the first quarter which only reached 4.87 percent.
“This is an anticipatory step. Global risks are increasing, especially from trade tensions between major countries. We want to keep the domestic economy resilient,” said the Director General of Economic and Fiscal Strategy at the Ministry of Finance, Febrio Nathan Kacaribu, in a press conference in Jakarta.
The stimulus package consists of five main programs. First, direct assistance for public transportation worth Rp940 billion. The government provides a 30 percent discount on train tickets for 2.8 million passengers, a 6 percent VAT exemption for economy class plane tickets for 6 million passengers, and a 50 percent discount on sea transportation fares for 500 thousand passengers.
Second, a 20 percent toll rate cut funded through a non-APBN scheme, with an estimated subsidy value of around Rp650 billion. This cut applies during the school holiday period and is intended to support public mobility.
Third, the thickening of the social protection program in the form of an additional Rp200 thousand per month for two months to 18.3 million Beneficiary Families (KPM) of the Basic Food Card Program. In addition, the government also distributes food assistance in the form of 10 kg of rice per month.
Fourth, wage subsidy assistance for workers with salaries below Rp3.5 million and honorary teachers. A total of 17.3 million workers and 565 thousand honorary teachers will receive additional income of Rp300 thousand per month for two months, with a total budget of Rp10.72 trillion.
Fifth, the government provides a 50 percent discount on Work Accident Insurance (JKK) contributions for six months to 2.7 million workers in the labor-intensive sector. This incentive is funded by non-APBN funds of Rp20 billion.
Previously, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that this stimulus package is estimated to be able to increase household consumption by 0.5 – 0.8%, significant enough to lift national GDP in the second half of 2025.
“We are trying to ensure that the engine of economic growth, namely domestic consumption, does not lose momentum. By maintaining purchasing power, the real sector can move faster,” he said.
This stimulus is also designed to be quickly absorbed and right on target. The government will rely on data from DTKS, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, and Bulog to distribute aid accurately. The monitoring process will be carried out by BPKP and across ministries/institutions.
Through this stimulus, the government hopes to strengthen purchasing power, stabilize domestic consumption, and maintain public confidence in the direction of fiscal policy amidst global economic turmoil that has not yet fully subsided.
