Jakarta – The government continues to encourage the renewal of the national legal system in order to realize a more transparent, accountable, and inclusive criminal justice system. One concrete step in this effort is reflected in the preparation of the Criminal Procedure Code Bill (RUU KUHAP) which is currently in the finalization stage.

The RUU KUHAP is an important milestone in the renewal of the national criminal justice system. The preparation of this draft is not only based on the need for harmonization with the constitution and other laws, but also as a response to technological developments, strengthening human rights protection, and encouraging public participation in the law enforcement process.

The ultimate goal is to create a justice system that is more open, fair, and guarantees equal access for all citizens. One of the fundamental changes in the RUU KUHAP is the emphasis on the principle of transparency. The judicial process, which has so far been considered closed and difficult for the public to access, is directed to be more open and accountable.

Through the new provisions in this draft, the implementation of trials will accommodate digital technology, such as audio-visual documentation and the involvement of electronic information systems. In this way, the public can monitor the legal process more actively and objectively, so that the potential for deviations in judicial procedures can be minimized.

Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Habiburokhman said that in the discussion of the Criminal Procedure Code Bill, his party would receive input from all related parties, both from the Government and academics.

“The Working Meeting to discuss the Criminal Procedure Code Bill will be held openly. All agendas will be carried out in the Commission III meeting room,” he said

Previously reported, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto signed Government Regulation (PP) Number 24 of 2025 concerning Special Handling and Awarding of Awards for Witnesses of the Perpetrators.

“Through this regulation, justice collaborators will receive a reward in the form of leniency or parole, if they are willing to cooperate with law enforcement to uncover criminal cases.” said President Prabowo

With the presence of the Criminal Procedure Code Bill, the government is committed to strengthening the pillars of justice that side with the people. A legal system that is not only tough on violators, but also fair to all parties, transparent in every process, and inclusive to all citizens without discrimination. This is a real manifestation of the government’s determination to build a more civilized and just Indonesia in the future. ***
