Government Strengthens MSME Empowerment to Accelerate National Economic Growth
Jakarta — The government is taking strategic steps to strengthen the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector as the main driver of national economic growth. Entering November 2025, various programs focused on business capacity building, financing, and MSME digitalization have shown significant progress and delivered direct impact on community-level economic activity.
One of the key priorities is expanding access to technology and providing business assistance through cross-ministerial and cross-agency initiatives. The government emphasizes that modernizing small business capabilities is not only about increasing production, but also about opening wider market opportunities, including access to the digital sector.
Deputy Minister for MSMEs, Helvi Moraza, stressed that strengthening technological competencies is essential to improving the competitiveness of small business actors. “MSMEs must have access to technology that aligns with current production and marketing demands. Modernization not only enhances efficiency, but also ensures that local products can compete and meet evolving market standards,” she explained.
On another front, the banking sector is also playing a crucial role in advancing MSME capacity. Through community-based empowerment programs, BRI has reached thousands of business owners and provided comprehensive assistance in production processes, business management, and digital access.
BRI Deputy President Director, Agus Noorsanto, stated that the bank’s empowerment programs are designed to strengthen MSMEs through structured approaches at the village level. “We provide development through our BRILiaN Villages, business clusters, and digital transformation to ensure MSMEs can grow from the grassroots. This comprehensive assistance model is designed to help business owners enhance their capacity sustainably,” he noted.
Meanwhile, the central government also ensures that the MSME empowerment ecosystem prioritizes cross-sector collaboration, both domestic and international. This effort aims to open wider market access and reinforce national supply chains.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation to strengthen the role of MSMEs in the regional economy. “MSMEs are the foundation of the people’s economy. Partnerships, knowledge transfer, and cooperation between countries are essential for Indonesian MSMEs to grow more rapidly and contribute to regional economic stability,” he stated.
With a more inclusive financing ecosystem, continuous business assistance, and improved literacy outreach in regions with high MSME penetration, the government is optimistic that the MSME sector will increasingly support equitable national economic development. These measures are expected to strengthen local economic resilience, create new job opportunities, and promote more evenly distributed economic growth across Indonesia.
