Government Takes Action Against Digital Platforms That Don’t Comply with Government Regulation (PP) TUNAS
Jakarta – The government officially implemented PP TUNAS (Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025) effective March 28, 2026. This regulation requires all digital platforms to strictly limit children’s access according to age restrictions, while strengthening the protection of their personal data online. The government is prepared to impose strict legal sanctions on platforms that refuse to comply.
Previously, the government instructed eight major platforms: YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox to immediately comply with this regulation. So far, only platforms X and Bigo Live have been deemed fully cooperative.
Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, stated that the government has sent summonses to Meta and Google regarding their compliance with Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic System Implementation for Child Protection (PP Tunas).
“Both have violated Indonesian law, namely Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026, a derivative of the Tunas Regulation. The government today sent summonses to both of them as part of implementing administrative sanctions in accordance with applicable provisions,” said Meutya.
In addition to Google and Meta, the government has also sent warning letters to TikTok and Roblox. Both are considered to have made efforts and cooperated, but have not yet fully complied with the regulations.
“These are the TikTok and Roblox platforms, and the government today issued warning letters to both of them,” she said.
If these two platforms continue to fail to fully comply, the government will adjust its actions by issuing summonses to them as well.
Meanwhile, Minister of Law, Supratman Andi Agtas, stated that law enforcement against platforms found to be violating the Tunas Regulation is now a primary focus after the Tunas Regulation was officially implemented.
“The Ministry of Communication and Digital will enforce the law, including blocking all platforms that do not participate in the Tunas Regulation,” Supratman said.
The implementation of the Tunas Regulation is a progressive step by the government in creating a safer and more controlled digital ecosystem. With a firm, uncompromising stance, the government is encouraging all platforms to immediately adapt this policy so that child protection in the digital space is not merely a formal regulation but can be implemented in practice.
