Jakarta – The government continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to maintaining the integrity of the national financial system through decisive measures to eradicate online gambling practices. The Financial Services Authority (OJK), together with the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), has taken concrete action by blocking thousands of accounts and blocking millions of access to online gambling content that is damaging Indonesia’s digital economy. This step demonstrates the synergy between institutions in maintaining financial stability, protecting the public, and creating a safe and productive digital space.

The Chief Executive of Banking Supervision at the OJK, Dian Ediana Rae, stated that to date, her office has submitted requests to block 27,395 bank accounts suspected of being involved in online gambling activities.

“Regarding the eradication of online gambling, which has a broad impact on the economy and financial sector, the OJK has requested banks to block approximately 27,395 accounts,” she said.

According to Dian, this step was taken based on data received from the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) and the results of the OJK’s own developments through monitoring suspicious financial transactions.

The OJK also requested that banks close accounts that match the National Identification Number (NIK) indicated to be involved in online gambling activities. Furthermore, banks were asked to implement Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) to tighten oversight of any transactions that could potentially violate the law.

“We want to ensure that the financial system is not used as a means of money laundering or financing illegal activities. This effort also serves as a form of protection for customers from becoming victims of data misuse,” Dian emphasized.

Meanwhile, the Komdigi Directorate General of Digital Space Supervision noted that to date, 2,259,905 pieces of content categorized as online gambling have been blocked or accessed by the cyber patrol team and digital platform partners. Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, emphasized that this step is part of the national strategy to enforce the law and maintain the health of Indonesia’s digital space.

“Our main goal is to create a healthy, safe, and productive digital space for the Indonesian people,” she said.

Meutya explained that this policy aligns with the President’s directive to strengthen digital governance that favors the public interest. The government’s approach, she continued, not only emphasizes technical blocking but also includes prevention through digital education and inter-agency synergy.

“Indonesia’s digital sovereignty must not be compromised by illegal practices that damage the future of society,” Meutya emphasized.

This integrated step by the OJK and Komdigi demonstrates the government’s commitment to maintaining national economic order while enforcing the law in cyberspace. This policy is not just about blocking accounts, but also about building a foundation for a digital economy with integrity and sustainability, to protect the public and strengthen public trust in the national financial system.
