This year’s commemoration of Hero’s Day serves as a crucial moment for all elements of society to strengthen the spirit of unity and safeguard national integrity from various forms of provocation by interest groups. Carrying the theme “My Hero, My Role Model: Keep Moving Forward to Continue the Struggle,” the Government of Serdang Bedagai Regency (Sergai) reaffirms its commitment to continue the heroes’ legacy through concrete actions and the spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation).

The Acting Head of the Serdang Bedagai Office of Communication and Information (Kominfo), Drs. Dimas Kurnianto, SH, MM, M.SP, stated that Hero’s Day is not merely an annual ceremony, but a reminder of the importance of preserving the spirit of struggle in today’s context. He emphasized that the spirit of heroism must be manifested by maintaining unity, resisting all forms of division, and continuing to work hard to build the nation amid global dynamics and increasingly complex ideological challenges.

“As a form of respect and active participation, all regional apparatus, government institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the people of Serdang Bedagai are encouraged to hoist the Red and White Flag in front of their homes, government offices, and neighborhoods,” said Dimas Kurnianto.

According to him, raising the flag is not merely a symbol of respect, but also an expression of patriotism and a tangible proof of commitment to protecting national sovereignty. He believes that the spirit of heroism must be translated into collective actions that strengthen social cohesion and resilience, especially in times when provocation and disinformation are often exploited by interest groups to divide society.

“The commemoration of Hero’s Day must be used as a momentum to strengthen the spirit of national unity and solidarity. By hoisting the flag and displaying Hero’s Day attributes, we not only honor the services of our heroes but also express our determination to continue their struggle through our contributions and dedication in the present day,” he added.

Dimas further stated that the local government is committed to continuously fostering public awareness through digital literacy, civic education, and the reinforcement of character values so that citizens will not be easily provoked by divisive issues.

“Our heroes have sacrificed everything for independence. Our duty today is to protect the fruits of their struggle from any threats that aim to destroy our unity,” he asserted.

Through the spirit of Hero’s Day, the people of Serdang Bedagai are called upon to emulate the values of heroism by maintaining solidarity, strengthening their national spirit, and realizing an Indonesia that is peaceful, progressive, and sovereign.
