Hoaxes Spread Again by OPM, Apkam Affirms Commitment to Maintaining Security in Papua
Central Papua — The armed separatist group West Papua National Liberation Army – Free Papua Movement (TPNPB-OPM) has again spread hoaxes related to TNI-Polri activities in Papua. After carrying out an attack on Aminggaru Airport, Ilaga, Omukia District, Puncak Regency on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, OPM has again launched false accusations against security forces by spreading a narrative of violence against civilians that never happened.
The attack carried out by the TPNPB Kodap XVIII Ilaga militia led by Peni Murib had disrupted flight activities. However, the spokesperson for the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Senior Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, emphasized that the sweep was only carried out around the forest area near the airport and did not enter the village.
“It is not true that our personnel burned down residents’ houses. The operation was carried out in a limited, measured, and professional manner. There were no actions targeting civilians,” Yusuf said in his statement, Thursday (6/19).
Yusuf also explained that from the results of drone monitoring, three TPNPB militia members were seen carrying long-barreled weapons of the M16, AK-47, and one pistol, who then fled towards the forest. He emphasized that the situation at Aminggaru Airport is now safe and flight activities have returned to normal.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, said that attacks on public facilities such as airports were a form of serious crime. He ensured that the authorities would not allow the armed group to disrupt public order and safety.
“This is an attack on a vital object that endangers civilians. We will not give them the slightest room to create instability. Law enforcement will continue to be carried out professionally,” Faizal emphasized.
Responding to accusations of burning down residents’ houses by the authorities, Faizal stated that this was a propaganda effort often used by the TPNPB to tarnish security efforts in conflict areas. He challenged the accusing party to show evidence if such an incident did occur.
“If there is evidence of burning, please submit it. Don’t keep making up stories to sway public opinion,” said Faizal.
The public is also urged to remain calm and vigilant against various misleading information spread by separatist groups. Hoaxes and propaganda that are circulating are often used to create fear and break public trust in the security forces. The government and authorities emphasize their commitment to maintaining stability and protecting all Papuans. ()
