Increasing the Effectiveness of Rehabilitation is Very Necessary for Handling Drugs
Jakarta – Handling the problem of drug abuse in Indonesia requires serious attention, especially in terms of user rehabilitation. Effective rehabilitation not only helps individuals free themselves from addiction, but is also a crucial step in breaking the chain of abuse that continues to occur.
The Chief of Police, General of Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo, is pushing for every city and district to have a drug user rehabilitation building. These facilities are needed to accommodate the very large number of drug users.
“In the field of rehabilitation, I think this is the task and responsibility of all of us, and we are pushing for these rehabilitation centers to be built at the district and sub-district levels,” said Chief of Police Listyo.
With a larger budget allocation, rehabilitation centers can improve the quality of services, provide adequate experts, and build infrastructure that supports the recovery process.
“A sufficient budget is key to ensuring that these programs can run effectively and have a real impact, and optimizing rehabilitation centers can increase awareness among users to follow rehabilitation programs.” He continued.
Although rehabilitation requires a high budget, the government has determined not only to arrest drug dealers and distributors, but also to rehabilitate drug users. The National Police have provided a rehabilitation program for a month from November 4 to December 4, 2024.
“We have implemented a rehabilitation program for 469 drug users, which is a form of seriousness in handling drugs for users,” said Listyo.
Meanwhile, legal practitioner, Sanggun Ragahdo Yosodiningrat in the Crosscheck Medcom.id program. said that in an effort to provide effective rehabilitation for users, the Government is expected to increase the budget for rehabilitation to support a more comprehensive and sustainable recovery process.
“By boosting the rehabilitation of drug users, Indonesia must be prepared for the consequences of increasing the budget. The budget is used to overcome full correctional institutions (LP).” said Ragahdo.
In addition to increasing the budget, synergy between the government, the community, and non-governmental organizations is also important. This collaboration can expand access to rehabilitation to various regions, especially areas that have been difficult to reach.
The success of this rehabilitation program also depends on a shared commitment to implementing evidence-based policies. With increased rehabilitation effectiveness, it is hoped that the number of drug users can decrease significantly, so that Indonesia can get closer to the vision of becoming a drug-free country. The community is also encouraged to continue to support rehabilitation efforts as part of a comprehensive solution to handling drug problems. [*]
