Increasingly Firm in Eradicating Online Gambling, Government Prepares New Regulations
JAKARTA — The government continues to demonstrate a firm commitment to eradicating online gambling practices that are increasingly disturbing the public. In response to the increasing number of cases and the social impacts they cause, President Prabowo Subianto has given direct instructions to accelerate the preparation of stricter regulations to eradicate online gambling.
Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, stated that the government is currently drafting a special Government Regulation (PP) that will become a stronger legal umbrella in handling online gambling.
“The President has again discussed the development of handling online gambling. One of the steps that will be taken in the near future is to issue a government regulation that regulates more firmly the efforts to eradicate online gambling,” said Meutya.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, emphasized that inter-agency discussions regarding this regulation are still ongoing. “Still under discussion. This year, this year,” he said.
However, Nezar emphasized that investigations into individuals suspected of being involved in cross-country gambling networks are not the domain of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, but rather the authority of law enforcement officers.
The central government’s move has received support from various regions, including the Jambi City Government. The Mayor of Jambi, dr. Maulana, at an inauguration event for officials within the Jambi City Government, firmly voiced his commitment to combating Online Gambling. He considered the practice of online gambling as a serious threat to social life and family harmony.
“Online Gambling is a real threat to the future, both for individuals and families. Therefore, I appeal to all ASN and the people of Jambi City to never get involved,” said Maulana.
He also emphasized that there will be no tolerance for state civil servants involved in online gambling activities. The Jambi City Government will take firm action according to applicable regulations. In addition to taking action, public education and campaigns on the dangers of Online Gambling also continue to be intensified as part of a preventive strategy.
“Let’s protect the honor of ourselves, our families, and the City of Jambi that we love,” he said.
He reminded that integrity is a non-negotiable price for all government officials and employees.
With progressive steps from the central government and real support from local governments, the eradication of Online Gambling has now entered a new phase. Stronger law enforcement, accompanied by active community participation, is expected to stop the spread of online gambling practices that damage the joints of social life in Indonesia.
