Jakarta — Indonesia has officially taken over the leadership of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) from the Speaker of Côte d’Ivoire’s Parliament, Adama Bictogo. The symbolic handover marks the beginning of Indonesia’s transformative leadership in strengthening Islamic world solidarity through parliamentary diplomacy.

Indonesia’s leadership in PUIC will be guided by universal humanitarian values aligned with the spirit of its Constitution. The country has pledged to advocate for the voices of developing nations on the global stage, especially in promoting peace and resolving conflicts through diplomatic channels.

Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, stated that Indonesia’s PUIC presidency would prioritize strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, empowering women, and addressing global humanitarian issues.

“We are committed to making PUIC a strategic platform to fight for global justice, including support for Palestine and other pressing humanitarian concerns,” said Puan.

In his handover speech, Adama Bictogo expressed full confidence in Indonesia’s capacity to bring fresh energy to PUIC.

“Indonesia has the experience and capacity to lead PUIC toward a more inclusive and responsive direction in facing today’s challenges,” he affirmed.

Irine Yusiana Roba Putri, Indonesia’s representative in the PUIC Executive Committee, added that Indonesia’s leadership will emphasize concrete inter-parliamentary cooperation.

“We will focus on practical programs that can improve the welfare of the Muslim community—such as education, healthcare, and economic empowerment,” said Irine.

Indonesia’s leadership is expected to enhance PUIC’s effectiveness as a platform to voice the aspirations of the Islamic world and to strengthen the role of parliaments in tackling global challenges.

This new leadership is not only a historic milestone in Indonesia’s parliamentary diplomacy but also marks a new chapter for a more inclusive, responsive, and transformative solidarity in the Islamic world. By focusing on strategic issues such as global justice, women’s empowerment, and tangible cooperation among member states, Indonesia is actively building bridges of dialogue and concrete action amid today’s geopolitical complexities.
