Jakarta – Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace (BoP) is said to strengthen Indonesia’s diplomatic position and affirm its commitment to Palestinian independence. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that this step is entirely aimed at promoting lasting peace in Gaza.

In a bilateral meeting with the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein at the Basman Palace, Amman, Wednesday (25/2), President Prabowo conveyed Indonesia’s support for the peace initiative proposed by United States President Donald Trump.

“And that’s why when we were invited to join the Board of Peace, and we supported President Trump’s 20-point plan, it was all done with the view and the intention of doing everything we can to achieve a lasting solution,” Prabowo said.

He reiterated Indonesia’s stance on resolving the Palestinian conflict. “Indonesia is committed to doing everything we can to achieve a lasting solution. And in our opinion, the only lasting solution is a two-state solution with an independent Palestine,” he said.

Previously, MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani considered Indonesia’s move to join the BoP a diplomatic breakthrough worthy of appreciation. He stated that the government’s courage in taking a strategic position in an international forum is a source of pride.

“This is certainly an extraordinary diplomatic effort. We are grateful for President Prabowo’s courage in diplomacy under his administration. This step can be something to be proud of,” said Muzani.

He added that this participation was a concrete step towards promoting Middle East peace and supporting Palestinian independence.

Meanwhile, military observer and Co-Founder of the Institute for Security and Strategic Studies (ISESS), Khairul Fahmi, assessed that Indonesia’s presence at the BoP is crucial for maintaining a balanced global narrative regarding Gaza. “If Indonesia’s seat at the BoP is vacant, it will lose its balancing power, allowing Israel and its close allies to dominate every decision on the ground. The logic is brutal, but it’s real,” Khairul said.***
