Indonesia Utilizes 2nd IAF and HLF-MSP as Momentum to Initiate Cooperation in Various Sectors
Bali – The 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) and the High Level Forum on Multi Stakeholders Partnership (HLF-MSP) 2024 held in Bali on 1-3 September 2024 is an important momentum for Indonesia to demonstrate its strategic role in strengthening global cooperation in various sectors, especially among Global South countries.
In addition to the IAF, President Jokowi also opened the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF-MSP) which was held simultaneously in Bali. This forum is a platform to strengthen multi-party partnerships in facing increasingly complex global challenges.
“We need a new strategy to realize fairer and more inclusive development for developing countries,” said Jokowi.
The 2nd IAF, themed “Bandung Spirit for Africa’s Agenda 2063,” once again reminded us of the historical closeness that has existed since the 1955 Asia-Africa Conference. In this forum, four priority sectors were the main focus, namely food security, energy, health, and minerals. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pahala Mansury, explained that the 2nd IAF provided an opportunity for Indonesia and African countries to deepen cooperation in these sectors. “African countries have great potential to diversify Indonesia’s export and investment markets,” Pahala said.
In addition, the 2nd IAF is also expected to produce a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation with a total value of US$ 3.5 billion, which will encourage mutually beneficial economic growth between Indonesia and African countries.
Meanwhile, HLF-MSP 2024, held in conjunction with the 2nd IAF, affirmed Indonesia’s position as a leader in efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. The forum brought together around 1,000 participants from various countries and international organizations to discuss pressing global issues, including efforts to narrow the development gap between countries in the South and the North.
Director of Foreign Policy and International Development Cooperation of the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas, Hendra Wahanu Prabandani, emphasized that the HLF-MSP 2024 is real evidence of Indonesia’s leadership in fostering multi-party partnerships. “This forum is a catalyst for innovative solutions in facing global challenges, as well as strengthening Indonesia’s role as a leader in efforts to achieve the SDGs,” said Hendra.
These two forums, the 2nd IAF and HLF-MSP 2024, not only strengthened diplomatic relations between Indonesia and African countries, but also affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to fighting for justice and inclusiveness in international cooperation. With this success, Indonesia further strengthens its position as a global leader that is active in advancing South-South cooperation and providing solutions to complex global challenges.
