Jakarta – The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Malaysia, Hermono, gave a firm response regarding the circulating video accusing intelligence of being involved in the implementation of the 2024 elections in Kuala Lumpur. Hermono emphasized that if an external party tries to intervene, the decision remains in the hands of the Overseas Election Committee (PPLN).

“Even if there are outside parties who try to intervene, will the PPLN (Overseas Election Committee) come back, don’t they want to intervene?” Hermono emphasized.

In his statement at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Hermono explained that the determination of the Kuala Lumpur Permanent Overseas Voter List (DPTLN) was carried out based on the results of the PPLN Plenary meeting, involving representatives of political parties, the General Election Commission (KPU), and the Overseas Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu LN) Kuala Lumpur. Not like in the one minute and nine second video which states that there was intelligence intervention in determining the Kuala Lumpur Permanent Overseas Voter List (DPTLN).

“Then how do you want to intervene?” added Hermono.

Hermono emphasized that PPLN continues to maintain its integrity, regardless of pressure from interested parties.

“There is an Integrity Pact,” he said.

In the context of maintaining the neutrality of the Indonesian Representatives during the 2024 Election, Hermono emphasized that the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has made various efforts to facilitate the PPLN and the Kuala Lumpur Panwaslu so that they can carry out their duties without problems. The Indonesian Embassy provides a location, supporting data, coordinates with local authorities, including the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the police.

Hermono also detailed that the Indonesian Embassy routinely invites political parties and community organizations to discuss, explain the obstacles they face, and ensure that all problems are resolved transparently within Wisma Duta.

Ambassador Hermono confirmed that the election process in Malaysia was taking place in accordance with the applicable mechanisms, dismissing hoax issues related to intelligence intervention.

Meanwhile, Chairman of PPLN Kuala Lumpur, Omar Faruk, conveyed how enthusiastic Indonesian citizens (WNI) were in voting in Malaysia, to the point that the situation for Indonesian citizens in the WTC area had exploded.

“It is true that the elections in Kuala Lumpur will be held today, Sunday, February 11 2023 at the WTC,” said Omar Faruk.

In a video on social media, Indonesian citizens can be seen filling the voting center area at the WTC, reflecting high participation.

The elections at that location also took place smoothly. Even though a hoax video related to the election was circulating, Omar Faruk quickly responded, emphasizing that the video contained baseless accusations.

“The videos circulating and going viral on social media related to the issue of ballot theft, POS Malaysia bribing to obtain ballot papers and the involvement of government officials in manipulating the election are baseless accusations made by certain individuals who have an interest in the 2024 Election “PPLN is also intensively communicating with the Indonesian KPU and has clarified hoax issues circulating on social media,” added Umar.

The Indonesian Embassy and Indonesian representatives abroad are committed to maintaining integrity and transparency in the democratic process, ensuring that the 2024 elections run smoothly and fairly in all areas of their duties.
