Jakarta – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) emphasized that the 2024 Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF), which will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on September 5, 2024, is an important platform for domestic industries to showcase innovations in the energy transition sector.

Deputy Chairperson for Maritime Affairs, Investment, and Foreign Affairs of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Shinta Kamdani, emphasized that ISF 2024 will not only be a forum for discussion, but will also produce concrete steps to encourage a faster energy transition.

Shinta stated that domestic industry is a major contributor to the release of carbon dioxide (CO2) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with the industrial sector contributing around 33.9% of total emissions. “This forum is not only a discussion forum but later there will be concrete results, including opportunities for industries to showcase their projects,” she said.

ISF 2024 will be a meeting place for various stakeholders in the global energy transition sector. With the involvement of industry players, it is hoped that this forum can accelerate the achievement of the target of zero carbon emissions or Net Zero Emissions (NZE), especially in the industrial sector, through the application of ideas and discussion results that will be produced.

Shinta added that efforts to reduce emissions in the industrial sector require energy efficiency and a shift to cleaner energy sources. This is key to reducing emissions, given the large contribution of the industrial sector to global emissions. “The emissions in the industrial sector come from energy use which contributes around 33.9% and this shows that energy efficiency and a shift to cleaner energy sources are key to reducing emissions,” she explained.

In addition to being a forum for discussion, ISF 2024 also aims to encourage collaboration and sharing of best practices among stakeholders to realize decarbonization. Thus, sustainable economic growth can be achieved globally.

Last year, ISF was successfully held with the participation of more than 2,500 people from 41 countries and more than 100 global speakers in the energy transition sector. The forum also resulted in eight collaborations to support the advancement of clean energy.

The ISF 2024 event supported by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is expected to be attended by more than 5,000 participants, making it the largest sustainability forum in the Asia-Pacific after the Conference of the Parties (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November 2024. The forum will bring together world leaders, CEOs, and sustainability experts to drive breakthroughs in business to address climate change issues.

With strong engagement from the business sector, ISF 2024 is expected to produce concrete steps towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
