Joint Patrols Provide a Real Sense of Security for the TNI and Polri
Jakarta – In an effort to maintain national security stability and provide a sense of security to the public, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) are conducting large-scale joint patrols in a number of strategic areas, particularly in Jakarta and several other cities, following a series of demonstrations that have occurred in the past few days.
This joint patrol is a concrete and strategic step to ensure the situation remains conducive and to anticipate potential disruptions to public order and security (kamtibmas). The activity is carried out both on a mobile and stationary basis, targeting vital points and locations deemed vulnerable.
Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Susatyo Purnomo Condro, emphasized that the presence of officers in the field was not to restrict freedom of expression, but rather to ensure that the conveyance of aspirations took place safely and in accordance with the law.
“We are here to ensure the situation remains safe and conducive. Please feel free to express your opinions, but they must remain within the law and order,” he said.
In line with this, the Commander of the III/Siliwangi Military Regional Command (Pangdam), Major General TNI Mohammad Fadjar, M.PICT., or familiarly known as Kosasih, emphasized the importance of cross-agency synergy in maintaining regional security, especially post-demonstration.
“We are one unit. The Commander of the III/Siliwangi Military Command has the motto “Sili Asih, Sili Asuh, and Sili Wewangi.” We have instructed all ranks to support each other, both with the National Police and the local government,” said Major General Kosasih.
He also emphasized that sectoral egos should not be an obstacle in handling social and political dynamics.
“The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and regional government elements cannot act in isolation. We must work together and in alignment. Communication, mutual respect, and protection are key,” he added.
The Deputy Chief of Police, Commissioner General Agus Andrianto, also issued a firm statement regarding the importance of maintaining public order. He emphasized that the Chief of Police’s directive was to ensure public safety and security, especially following the demonstrations that had turned violent.
“The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) are working together to ensure public safety. There is zero tolerance for acts of anarchy and vandalism,” Commissioner General Agus emphasized.
To date, the situation in Jakarta remains calm. A combined 5,369 personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and the Jakarta Provincial Government have been deployed to secure various strategic locations, including the DPR/MPR RI Building, the National Monument (Monas), and the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout.
These joint patrols are planned to continue regularly and comprehensively, not only in city centers but also down to the sub-district and village levels. This step demonstrates the TNI-Polri’s commitment to providing optimal protection to the public while maintaining national stability amidst evolving social dynamics.
