Logistical Aid Continues to Be Distributed, Economic Recovery and Fulfillment of Basic Needs for Flood Victims Improve

JAKARTA — The distribution of logistical assistance for communities affected by flooding in several regions of Sumatra continues on a sustained basis. The central government, in collaboration with regional governments, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and the private sector, has demonstrated strong synergy in ensuring that residents’ basic needs are met while simultaneously promoting post-disaster economic recovery. This effort reflects the state’s commitment to being tangibly present for communities impacted by hydrometeorological disasters at the beginning of 2026.

Flooding that struck several areas in Aceh and North Sumatra not only affected housing and infrastructure but also disrupted residents’ economic activities. In response, the government accelerated the distribution of logistical aid, including food supplies, clean water, health equipment, and other emergency necessities. Distribution has been carried out via land, sea, and air routes to reach areas that were previously isolated. These efforts also serve as an initial foundation for the social and economic recovery of affected communities.

Head of SKK Migas Djoko Siswanto emphasized that his institution has strengthened coordination with Production Sharing Contract Contractors (KKKS) to ensure aid is delivered accurately and effectively.

“The distribution of this assistance is a form of concern from the upstream oil and gas industry for communities around its operational areas that have been affected by disasters,” Djoko said.

He added that coordination with local governments and related institutions continues so that the assistance provided truly matches on-the-ground needs.

Support from the private sector has also come from the national logistics industry. Chief Marketing Officer of Lion Parcel, Kenny Kwanto, stated that his company has distributed more than 10 tons of logistical aid to flood-affected areas in Sumatra.

“We hope that the assistance we have delivered can help ease the burden on our brothers and sisters affected by the disaster and help them meet their daily basic needs,” Kenny said.

He emphasized that Lion Parcel remains committed to supporting humanitarian efforts as part of its corporate social responsibility.

In addition to physical logistics, support has also been provided in the form of communication services and CSR-based assistance. General Manager of Consumer Business Region Sumbagut Telkomsel, Agung E. Setyobudi, said that Telkomsel has distributed logistical aid to communities affected by flooding in North Aceh.

“We hope this assistance can help ease the burden on the community and support the post-disaster recovery process,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining communication connectivity so that communities can continue to coordinate and access vital information during the recovery period.

As aid distribution continues, the government has also begun accelerating economic recovery measures, particularly for small businesses and the informal sector that have been affected. Various stimulus programs and assistance schemes are being prepared so that local economic activities can gradually resume. This approach reflects government policy that not only focuses on emergency response but also prioritizes sustainable medium- and long-term recovery.

With increasingly solid cross-sector collaboration, flood response efforts in Sumatra are showing positive progress. The government continues to demonstrate its commitment to protecting the public, accelerating recovery, and ensuring that every affected citizen receives proper attention and support to rise together toward a better condition.*
