Jakarta – The Abadi Masela Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project in the Masela Block, Maluku, has once again become a public spotlight after the government reaffirmed its commitment to making this national strategic project a driving force for Indonesia’s energy security and economic growth. With the significant investment being made, the Masela project is projected to strengthen Indonesia’s path toward energy self-sufficiency while creating thousands of new jobs.

INPEX CORPORATION (INPEX), through its subsidiary INPEX Masela, Ltd. (INPEX Masela), as the operator, along with its joint venture partners, PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Masela (PHE Masela) and PETRONAS Masela Sdn. Bhd. (PETRONAS Masela), has officially begun the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) phase for the Abadi LNG Project in the Masela Block, Indonesia.

The Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Yuliot Tanjung, stated that the FEED phase is a crucial moment for the development of the Abadi Gas Field in the Masela Block. This project is not just an ordinary oil and gas project, but rather one of the main pillars of national energy security and a driving force for national and regional development.

“The government has high hopes that this project will proceed on schedule and provide maximum benefits for the nation. This aligns with one of President Prabowo Subianto’s goals, namely achieving energy self-sufficiency,” said Yuliot.

Yuliot also emphasized the importance of accelerated permitting and flexibility in procurement to support the smooth progress of the FEED and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) phases.

This FEED phase is a crucial milestone in the Abadi LNG Project’s journey towards realization, which is expected to support Indonesia’s target of achieving energy self-sufficiency while accelerating the transition to clean energy.

The government affirmed its commitment to ensuring the timely completion of this national strategic project, given its significance to energy security and regional development.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKK Migas), Djoko Siswanto, stated that the Abadi Masela Project occupies a strategic position among the oil and gas projects currently being developed in Indonesia.

According to Djoko, gas reserves in the Abadi Field reach 18.54 trillion cubic feet (TCF), with a potential production capacity of 9.5 million tons per annum (MTPA) of LNG, 150 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of pipeline gas, and approximately 35,000 barrels per day (BOPD) of condensate.

“With reserves and capacity of this magnitude, the Abadi Project is expected to not only strengthen national energy security but also become a driving force for the national and regional economies. The resulting multiplier effect will be significant through the utilization of local resources in and around the project area,” said Djoko.***
