Military observers appreciate the significant improvement in the national defense sector during the Prabowo era
Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto has demonstrated significant improvements in the development of the defense and security sector since becoming active in government.
This was stated by Military Observer and Head of the Center for Intermestic and Diplomatic Engagement (CIDE), Anton Aliabbas, during an interview on a radio station in Jakarta.
According to Anton, Prabowo began his official involvement in the defense sector in 2019, when he served as Minister of Defense. Then, in 2024, when he assumed the presidency of the Republic of Indonesia, his attention to this strategic sector became even more apparent.
“Since serving as minister until now as president, his attention to defense and security has increased,” said Anton.
Anton also explained that the defense sector’s major task is not only to maintain the quality of the main weapons systems (alutsista), but also to strengthen Indonesia’s active role in international forums to encourage the resolution of global conflicts, including those in Israel–Palestine and Russia–Ukraine.
All these steps, said Anton, are in line with the four national goals contained in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution, namely protecting all Indonesian people, advancing general welfare, improving the nation’s life, and participating in implementing world order.
“Building defense forces is unavoidable for the sake of national security,” said Anton.
However, he continued, this development must have a positive impact on the economy, particularly through strengthening the national defense industry.
“A strong defense not only safeguards sovereignty but also serves as a driving force for the national economy,” he said.
