MUI: Expressing opinions must not be anarchy and maintain unity
Jakarta – Deputy General Chair of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) KH Marsudi Syuhud said that when expressing an opinion there is no justification for acting anarchically. Apart from that, it is also important to maintain unity.
This was conveyed by the Deputy Chairman of the MUI, KH Marsudi Syuhud, during a dialogue on a national private television station, Tuesday, 2/9/2025.
According to him, expressing opinions must be done politely and in accordance with applicable legal regulations.
“Everyone is allowed to express their opinion, but it doesn’t have to be polite and in accordance with existing legal regulations. These must be obeyed,” said the Deputy Chairman of the MUI.
KH Marsudi appreciated President Prabowo’s swift response to the current situation.
“President Prabowo’s swift response to the current situation is commendable, thereby supporting everyone in upholding the law and fostering peace within society.
He added that President Prabowo’s directive was clear, namely to follow applicable laws, so that all interfaith figures supported President Prabowo’s policy.
“This afternoon, all interfaith leaders gathered at the MUI and all of them supported President Prabowo to uphold the law and calm the existing situation.
“This situation serves as a lesson for all parties to maintain unity, create peace, and be vigilant against intruders,” he said.
On the same occasion, Aditya Perdana, a political communications expert from the University of Indonesia, also spoke. He stated that it was unacceptable to convey opinions in an anarchic manner. It would also be the public who would suffer.
“There’s something to be concerned about when the way opinions are expressed leads to anarchy, which is unacceptable. It’s important to remember that opinions shouldn’t be expressed excessively, as they could damage the situation.”
Aditya also praised President Prabowo’s move. He considered the President’s actions appropriate in enforcing the law to prevent public unrest.
Aditya added that the public currently fully supports President Prabowo’s actions. They are also awaiting his next move.
On the other hand, Aditya said that DPR members must be careful not to fall for hoaxes.
“We must be careful about the many hoaxes that arise from the use of AI. Members of Parliament must be empathetic to the public’s situation,” he concluded.
