Jakarta – The anarchic demonstrations that erupted in Jakarta and several other major cities have sparked a variety of public responses. Several national figures have urged the public to remain calm and avoid provocation.

The 13th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, KH. Ma’ruf Amin, urged the public to remain calm and maintain unity.

“Don’t be provoked or provoked. Maintain national unity,” said Kiai Ma’ruf on his Instagram account.

Constitutional Law expert Mahfud MD also urged all parties to act wisely and refrain from pitting officers in the field against the people demanding and exercising their constitutional rights.

“Be patient and clear-eyed in observing events. The fault lies with corrupt officials who manipulate politics and economics with greed. That’s the main culprit,” said Mahfud MD.

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) also called on the public to stop demonstrations that are anarchic in nature and cause damage and unrest to the public.

The Head of Information and Communications for the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Masduki Baidlowi, said that demonstrations that lead to riots will impact people’s daily activities, especially for lower-middle class people who still have to earn a living.

“I think it’s important for people (to earn a living), especially those at the bottom, so please stop the demonstrations. Don’t let them cause anarchy and destruction, that’s the MUI’s appeal,” he said.

Furthermore, Masduki asked the police to prioritize persuasive measures. He appealed to all parties to maintain calm.

Similarly, MUI Chairman KH Anwar Iskandar urged the public to exercise restraint and not be easily provoked by provocative news. He urged them to avoid further loss of life and the destruction of national unity.

“Let’s guard ourselves and not be easily provoked. Maintain unity and avoid getting caught up in issues that could divide the nation,” said the Kiai (leader of the Al Amin and Assa’diyah Islamic Boarding Schools in Kediri).

The government calls on all elements of society to maintain order and not be easily provoked by calls for anarchic actions, because such actions will only bring harm and division.
