Observers Call Jokowi’s Mandarin-language Video Fake and Provoking the Public
Jakarta – The circulation of video clips of President Jokowi’s speech in Mandarin on social media has caused a stir among the public. The reason is, in the video President Jokowi sounds very fluent in Mandarin.
Observer and Communicologist Emrus Sihombing also responded to the video.
“I got two social media links. What appears to be the President’s speech at a business or economic meeting. “One delivered in English, and one in Mandarin,” said Emrus.
According to him, the state video shown should still use the original language (English) accompanied by translated text.
He considered that the circulation of the video could give rise to multiple interpretations and endanger national unity.
“It’s as if Mr Jokowi is part of China’s or China’s economic interests,” he continued.
Therefore, continued Emrus, videos delivered in Mandarin like that must be taken down immediately by the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo). Or at the very least, the Ministry of Communication and Information must massively explain to the public the video of the President’s speech in Mandarin.
Furthermore, Emrus said that the party who made the video had certain interests or motives.
“The person who wrote the text in spoken form in Mandarin, I think he had certain interests and motives,” he said.
For your information, based on search results, the video clip of President Jokowi’s speech, which speaks fluent Mandarin, is a fake video which is suspected of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods.
The video is the result of manipulation by taking a video recording of President Jokowi’s speech at the USINDO, US Chamber and USABC Gala Dinner in the United States in 2015. The original recording had previously been uploaded on the YouTube platform at the link https://youtu.be/6G604qxWaNQ? si=coW08xmXyMw5fTFC.
Previously, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said that the use of AI had the potential to disrupt the 2024 elections. This technology could create its own conflicts during the democratic party.
“In the elections, people can fight because of artificial intelligence. Vote, your face drawn, slandered, fighting or not? Even though it is the result of artificial intelligence,” he said.
Therefore, he added, it is important to understand the potential risks and impacts of using AI in various aspects of life, including ahead of the 2024 elections.
