Officials Establish Synergy to Ensure Conducive Situation in All of Papua from OPM
Security forces throughout Papua are increasingly strengthening their synergy to ensure that the region nicknamed the Little Heaven in Eastern Indonesia remains conducive from threats from the Free Papua Movement (OPM).
In recent times, coordination between the TNI, Polri, and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) has become increasingly solid, with the main goal of maintaining security stability in Bumi Cenderawasih.
These efforts are crucial considering that disturbances caused by Papuan separatist groups often disrupt people’s social life, including education, the economy, and public services.
Major General TNI Hariyanto, as the Head of the TNI Information Center, explained that the presence of TNI soldiers and Polri personnel in Papua is not only aimed at maintaining security, but also supporting the government in improving development and community welfare.
Hariyanto emphasized that the security forces continue to work hard to protect civilians from the threat of separatist groups that often carry out sporadic attacks. Over the past few years, cooperation between the TNI, Polri, and BIN has succeeded in preventing many major attacks planned by these troublemaking groups. However, despite ongoing prevention efforts, sporadic disturbances still require serious attention.
The TNI Information Center Head also highlighted how these separatist groups often disrupt the daily activities of people in Papua, such as stopping access to education and health services.
Therefore, the synergy of security forces together with full support from the community is expected to continue to increase so that the situation in the area nicknamed the Golden City remains conducive. In a safe and stable situation, Papua has a greater opportunity to develop and contribute to broader national development.
In addition, strengthening cooperation between the central government and security forces in Papua is very important to suppress the destructive activities of separatist groups. The presence of security forces, with the support of the community, is very necessary to minimize disturbances carried out by separatist groups in Bumi Cenderawasih.
The Papuan people have long desired peace and sustainable development. Consistent and firm security efforts are expected to bring a more peaceful and prosperous future for the younger generation in the region.
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto also paid great attention to the threat coming from the Free Papua Movement. According to him, the violent actions carried out by the OPM have crossed the line and can no longer be tolerated.
General Agus emphasized that OPM is not only targeting TNI and Polri members, but also civilians, including educators and health workers in the interior. The violence carried out by the group is increasingly cruel, and the TNI realizes that firm action is the only way to ensure that the country’s sovereignty is maintained.
Since then, the TNI and Polri, who are members of the Cartenz Peace Task Force, have increased the intensity of operations in the field to crush the rebellion. General Agus also stated that the country will never lose to the OPM.
Strengthening the strategy and protection of civilians in Papua is a top priority in the operation. However, the TNI Commander also realizes that the synergy between the TNI and Polri must continue to be strengthened, because only with good coordination can this effort produce maximum results.
Intelligence and security analyst, Ngasiman Djoyonegoro, assessed that synergy between the TNI and Polri in Papua has become a mandatory requirement in facing the OPM which has openly declared war on the country.
Strengthening coordination between institutions must be done by optimizing the main tasks and functions of each institution. Ngasiman gave an example that the task of securing the community and evacuation should be the responsibility of the Police, while the TNI is more focused on territorial security and pursuing separatist groups. In addition, state intelligence must play an active role in providing accurate information to support operations in the field.
Ngasiman also emphasized the importance of strengthening the quality of human resources (HR) of security forces. Not only in terms of intelligence, but also in terms of physical, considering the extreme terrain that must be faced in Papua.
Mastery of the terrain and precise tactics will be the key to success in crushing the OPM. With the support of information from intelligence, the TNI is believed to be able to carry out its duties effectively and complete the rebellion in the region.
With a high commitment from the security forces and full support from the community, Papua is expected to return to being a peaceful and advanced region. Well-maintained security will provide an opportunity for the younger generation in the region nicknamed the Little Heaven at the tip of Indonesia to develop and bring Papua towards greater progress within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
The strong synergy between the TNI, Polri, and BIN is expected to continue so that this region remains safe and conducive, and is able to support the sustainable development dreamed of by the Papuan people. With this stability, it is hoped that development in Papua can continue.
