Papua – The central government’s policy of encouraging the development of the nickel sector in Papua, particularly in Raja Ampat, has received support from traditional leaders. The Chief Ondoafi of Tanah Tabi, Roliyanus Tapatkeding, welcomed the investment in mining as part of efforts to accelerate regional development and improve community welfare.

In his statement, Roliyanus revealed that many social problems such as damaged infrastructure and high unemployment rates could be addressed through fair and targeted development of the mining sector.

“The introduction of nickel infrastructure to West Papua can help repair damaged roads and bridges, and also help the many abandoned children in Papua, especially in Raja Ampat,” Roliyanus said.

He believes that the mining sector is not only about exploiting resources, but also plays a key role in creating employment opportunities and creating prosperity in the region.

“This can reduce unemployment in Raja Ampat. We fully support the Central Government in accelerating nickel development,” Roliyanus emphasized.

Roliyanus also said that local community participation in mining projects must be a top priority, especially in terms of empowering the local workforce.

“We want our children to be able to work and earn a daily income. That would greatly improve the lives of our people in West Papua,” said Roliyanus.

He emphasized the importance of involving indigenous communities from the start of project planning so that mining development runs in harmony with local wisdom.

Openness of information, transparency in licensing, and the presence of community support institutions are believed to strengthen the synergy between the government, companies, and residents.

In addition, Ondoafi Roliyanus hopes that the government will ensure that the results of the nickel industry are also returned in the form of education, health, and community economic empowerment development programs.

“I really appreciate and fully support the Central Government’s efforts in developing nickel mining in Raja Ampat, West Papua,” said Roliyanus.

Support from traditional figures such as Ondoafi Roliyanus Tapatkeding is a positive signal of synergy between the central government and the Papuan people in utilizing natural resources for mutual progress.
