Tangerang – Supporting the priority agenda of infrastructure development and environmental management in the first year of the Prabowo–Gibran administration, the Tangerang Regency Government is accelerating the preparation of strategic infrastructure to support the development of the Waste-to-Electricity Processing Installation (PSEL).

This national strategic project is scheduled to enter the construction preparation phase in 2026 and is targeted to begin operations in 2028 as a sustainable solution for waste management and renewable energy utilization.

Regent of Tangerang, Maesyal Rasyid, explained that the infrastructure preparation includes building access roads, drainage systems, and providing more than five hectares of land at the Jatiwaringin Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Pragib. The land will also be expanded to accommodate the project’s needs.

“We will add other supporting infrastructure, such as clean water supply and adequate access roads. Therefore, I have asked the local water utility (PDAM) and related agencies to prepare full support,” said Regent Maesyal.

The PSEL project in Tangerang Regency is a strategic solution to address the problem of waste accumulation, which currently reaches approximately 2,000 tons per day. Through this installation, the local government hopes to provide positive environmental impacts and promote the use of renewable energy.

“We want to ensure thorough readiness of the land so that construction can proceed immediately,” added the Regent.

Meanwhile, Head of the Tangerang Regency Environmental and Sanitation Agency (DLHK), Ujat Sudrajat, explained that initial construction for PSEL will start in 2026 with an estimated construction period of 18 to 24 months.

“In 2026, preparations for land and construction will begin, and the building process will take around 18-24 months,” explained Ujat.

Furthermore, Ujat conveyed that the PSEL project is fully funded through investment from the Investment Management Agency of Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara Indonesia) with a total investment value of Rp 2 trillion.

“In a way, this is a division of tasks; however, the local government is responsible for preparing the waste supply and the site,” Ujat clarified.

Once the installation is operational, the waste currently piling up at the Jatiwaringin TPA will be used as the main fuel for the waste processing machines, requiring a minimum of 1,000 tons of waste per day. This will enable the TPA area, which was previously an open dumping site, to be transformed into green open space (RTH).

“If the waste is already used as fuel, we can develop the existing land into green open spaces,” added Ujat.

The Tangerang Regency Government is committed to ensuring that all supporting infrastructure in the Pragib area is ready to facilitate the smooth running of the project. With full support from various parties and adequate infrastructure preparedness, the local government is optimistic that PSEL will become an innovative solution for waste management and a sustainable, environmentally friendly alternative energy source for the community.
