Medan – One year into the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the government’s programs have reached communities across all social strata, including those at the grassroots level. This commitment is reflected through various initiatives that directly benefit the people, such as the subsidized housing program, Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KDMP), and the People’s School program.

Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait, revealed that the distribution of subsidized houses has now reached over 240,000 units, as part of the government’s ambitious target of 3 million houses nationwide.

“We have distributed subsidized houses to the lower-income community, reaching more than 240,000 units as part of our target of 3 million houses across Indonesia,” Maruarar explained during an interview with reporters in Medan, North Sumatra.

During the same occasion, Minister Maruarar Sirait, accompanied by Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, symbolically handed over keys to subsidized houses to residents of North Sumatra. The handover marked the completion of 240,265 subsidized housing units under the government’s housing assistance program through the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas.

“These subsidized houses have been distributed to applicants awaiting credit approval and mortgage signing, as well as those who have already moved into their new homes,” he stated.

Maruarar also announced an additional quota of 5,000 subsidized houses for the North Sumatra region, bringing the total to 20,000 units for this year.

Meanwhile, the Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KDMP) has emerged as an innovative rural economic development program, showing positive results in various areas of Central Java, including Wonosobo Regency. The program aims to strengthen village economies through an easier, more transparent, and sustainable financing system.

Chairman of KDMP Sukoharjo Village, Bambang Nurkholis, shared that his cooperative has been actively operating with multiple business units. “BNI has come and we’ve submitted our business proposal; we’re still waiting for approval. The KDMP program has been a great help—thankfully, our cooperative has been running since July 21 and continues to grow. We’re active in basic goods, LPG, fertilizer distribution, and the Laku Pandai program. Every day, new members continue to register,” he said.

A similar sentiment was expressed by Suroso, manager of KDMP Winongsari in Kaliwiro District, Wonosobo Regency. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the cooperative’s core principle as an economic institution founded on mutual cooperation. According to him, KDMP not only strengthens the local economy but also expands access to financing through the Simkopdes application, which is directly connected to Himbara Banks.

“The main focus should be on members’ mandatory and principal savings because cooperatives are by the members, from the members, and for the members. However, in this case, the Merah Putih Cooperative has received support from the government—specifically from President Prabowo—through easier access to financing from Himbara banks,” Suroso explained.

In a different occasion, Gus Ipul reaffirmed that students of the People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat) come from underprivileged and disadvantaged families who still deserve access to quality education. He stated that these children represent the next generation of the nation, who must be prepared to become future leaders.

“President Prabowo has directed us to pay attention to families like these—families who are not yet prosperous and must be collectively supported so they can live better lives, and their children can have a brighter future. That’s why President Prabowo initiated the People’s School program, specifically for children from pre-prosperous families,” Gus Ipul told reporters.

According to Gus Ipul, the People’s School program is part of the government’s broader effort to eradicate poverty through education. The initiative, he continued, is not solely managed by the Ministry of Social Affairs but also involves multiple ministries and local governments.

“The implementation of the People’s School program is part of poverty alleviation efforts. Although the Ministry of Social Affairs is the main operational body, we are supported by many others, such as the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, BPS, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, as well as mayors, regents, and governors,” he said.

Through these programs, the Prabowo-Gibran administration continues to demonstrate that national progress must begin from the grassroots—by improving housing, strengthening village economies, and ensuring access to education for all.
