Opening ISF 2024, Jokowi: Don’t Doubt Indonesia to Achieve Net-Zero Emission
Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially opened the 2024 Indonesia Sustainability Forum (ISF). President Jokowi hopes that this forum will be a place to exchange ideas and knowledge, as well as provide global solutions and best practices in dealing with climate change.
“I hope this forum can be a place where knowledge meets, a place where experiences meet, a place where resources can be shared capital in collaborating to face existing climate challenges,” said Jokowi in his welcoming speech at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (5/9).
President Jokowi also said that climate change cannot be resolved as long as the world only cares about the economy.
“Climate change will not be resolved if the world still uses an economic approach that only calculates profits and prioritizes the ego of each country,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi added that resolving this problem requires a collaborative and humane approach, between developed and developing countries, without sacrificing the interests of the people.
“Green economy is not only about protecting the environment, but also creating sustainable prosperity for the people,” he added.
Jokowi also emphasized that Indonesia is committed to achieving net-zero emissions and contributing to the world, with abundant renewable energy potential, such as the floating PLTS in the Cirata Reservoir and the largest mangrove forest in the world.
“Indonesia’s mangrove forests are the largest in the world, with a much better carbon absorption capacity than tropical rainforests. Progress in addressing climate change is difficult to achieve if developed countries do not invest, and funding is not provided in a scheme that eases developing countries,” Jokowi said.
Indonesia is open to partner with anyone to maximize the potential of green energy, drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth. This forum is a place to exchange knowledge, experiences, and resources in facing climate challenges.
“Indonesia is open to partnering with anyone in terms of green energy. Collaboration and humanity are not options, but a necessity and a shared obligation in facing the climate crisis. Therefore, this forum is a place to discuss facing climate challenges,” Jokowi concluded.
For information, ISF 2024 carries the theme “Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Growth”. The forum attended by more than 8,000 participants to highlight five pillars of discussion, namely the green economy, energy transition, nature conservation and biodiversity, sustainable living, and marine economy (blue economy).
