Opening the 10th WWF, President Jokowi Invites to Formulate Real Actions for Inclusive Water Management
Bali – President Jokowi officially opened the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) on Monday (20/5).
“Welcome to Bali, it is an honor for Indonesia to be trusted to host the tenth World Water Forum to strengthen joint commitments and formulate concrete actions for inclusive and sustainable water management,” said President Jokowi from the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) area.
Initially, the Head of State explained that the earth is dominated by water and only a small amount of it can be accessed for daily needs.
“We can imagine that of the 72 percent of the earth’s surface that is covered with water, only 1 percent can be accessed and used for drinking water and sanitation purposes,” he said.
Therefore, President Jokowi reminded that water can be managed well. The President also showed that Indonesia has local wisdom in managing water.
“Our people have a cultural value towards water, one of which is the Subak irrigation system in Bali which has been practiced since the 11th century, and is recognized as a world cultural heritage.” he said.
In the same place, technology entrepreneur from the United States Elon Musk also appreciated the implementation of the 10th WWF. According to him, the high-level meeting on water is believed to be able to provide certainty in resolving world water problems.
Not only that, Elon also emphasized the importance of the potential use of alternative energy in supporting environmental conservation efforts and maintaining water security.
“The potential for using alternative energy to support efforts to preserve the environment and maintain water security, one of which is solar panels.” he said
