Labuan Bajo — Tu’a Gendang (leader of the traditional house) of the Other Indigenous Peoples, Hendrikus Jempo appealed to all people to continue to support the implementation of the 2023 ASEAN Summit.
“As community leaders, we invite the people of West Manggarai to join hands in supporting the implementation of the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo,” he said.
The support he has provided is also in line with the preparations that are being made by the Government of Indonesia in Labuan Bajo.
According to Hendrikus, in fact, not every region can be entrusted with being the host for this international event.
What’s more, for him, Labuan Bajo itself has a unique charm, so it’s no wonder it was the chosen place for the 2023 ASEAN Summit.
Therefore, the traditional community leader invited the entire community to continue to support the various preparations that have been made by the government, such as construction and preparation for implementation.
Furthermore, Hendrikus appealed again to all people not to be easily consumed by hoaxes circulating on social media. Especially if the issue concerns efforts to thwart the holding of the 2023 ASEAN Summit.
“I also remind the people of West Manggarai not to believe that various rumors and fake news (hoaxes) are created and spread by certain individuals with the aim of disrupting and even thwarting the ASEAN Summit activities in Labuan Bajo,” added Hendrikus.
In the same vein, the Lawyer of the Other Indigenous People, Benedict Janur, also agrees that there is indeed a lot of hoax information being spread on social media.
This variety of information tends to try to provoke the public regarding the 2023 ASEAN Summit.
Therefore, the public must continue to increase their vigilance and be wiser in accepting the information that is available.
Benedict appealed to the public to cross-check again through official information issued by the government so they don’t fall for misguided information.
Apart from that, the Indigenous People’s Lawyers also asked the security forces to be able to process the law if there were people who caused a commotion.
“We ask the security forces to take legal action if there are individuals who have caused disturbances in the West Manggarai district,” said Benedict.
On the other hand, West Manggarai activist Lorensius Logam said that the ASEAN Summit was a major event. Therefore, he invited the public to be able to support and participate in the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.
“Whatever the challenges will be in the future, come on, let’s participate together in maintaining a conducive situation, both from the pre-event to the implementation process later,” he said.
