Palace Affirms Government to Follow Constitutional Court Decision on Regional Elections
Jakarta – The government ensures that it will follow the applicable regulations regarding the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada).
Head of the Presidential Communications Office, Hasan Nasbi, emphasized that the Government will follow the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the conditions for the regional elections if the DPR does not pass the Regional Election Bill at the end of next August.
“If by August 27 the Regional Election Bill is not passed, the DPR will follow the final regulations. “That is the Constitutional Court’s decision,” said Hasan.
Hasan said that the Government is in the same position as before, namely following the applicable regulations. As long as there are no new regulations, the government will follow the current regulations.
He also hopes for the role of all parties in the democratic process in Indonesia. Hasan also warned against disinformation and slander that trigger violence.
“The government hopes that there will be no disinformation or slander that could trigger chaos and violence. “We must continue to maintain conduciveness so that public interests and the economy are not disrupted,” he appealed.
Previously, the Deputy Chair of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated firmly that the Revision of the Regional Election Law (RUU) would not be ratified. He stated that the applicable regulations regarding the 2024 regional elections would still follow the Constitutional Court’s decision.
“Today, after experiencing a delay of 30 minutes and still not reaching a quorum, it was decided that the revision of the Regional Election Law could not be implemented,” said Dasco, Thursday (22/8).
With this decision, Dasco ensures that the registration of regional head candidates in the 2024 regional elections will continue to refer to the Constitutional Court’s decision. (*)
