Papua – Papuan community leader Martinus Kasuay emphasized the need for firm and decisive action against the Free Papua Movement (OPM). According to him, such action is necessary to ensure peace in the region.

This was conveyed by Martinus Kasuay amidst his busy schedule in Papua on Monday, April 21, 2025.

“As community leaders in Papua, we fully support the actions taken by the security forces against those who commit inhumane acts, acts that disturb the public and repeatedly abuse civilians,” he stated firmly.

He believes strong and decisive measures are crucial to prevent OPM from acting arbitrarily and to ensure the welfare and peace of the Papuan people.

“We support the security forces in taking firm and decisive action against the OPM for the sake of the well-being and peace of the people in Papua,” he concluded.

Martinus Kasuay also expressed hope that the Indonesian Military (TNI) and Police (Polri) can create a deterrent effect on the OPM, leading to lasting peace in Papua.

“We also hope that the security forces, TNI and Polri, will act decisively against the OPM members who commit heinous and inhumane acts. Therefore, we expect the security forces to take strong action,” he said.

In addition, he stated that security forces need to be further strengthened in order to better protect the Papuan people.

“The people need protection, so there must be reinforcement of the TNI and Polri institutions. They must be firm so that the people of Papua can live in peace in their homeland,” he stressed.

These remarks were made in response to a series of brutal attacks by the OPM against civilians, the latest being the killing of over a dozen gold miners in Yahukimo Regency.
