Raja Ampat – One of the Papuan Traditional Figures, Roliyanus Tapatkeding, expressed his support for the development of nickel mining in the Raja Ampat region, West Papua as part of efforts to improve community welfare and infrastructure.

“I give my full support to the central government in bringing nickel infrastructure to Papua, specifically West Papua, by helping us with our damaged road and bridge infrastructure,” Roliyanus said.

Roliyanus also said that responsibly managed nickel mines could provide significant benefits to local communities, both in terms of employment and infrastructure development.

“This could help bring in nickel to help repair damaged roads and bridges, and provide for the many abandoned children in Papua, especially Raja Ampat,” he said.

The presence of investment in the mining sector, if closely monitored and involving indigenous communities from the outset, is considered to be a sustainable alternative source of livelihood.

“So, it can help us reduce unemployment in Raja Ampat. With the introduction of this nickel, and the development of this nickel industry, we fully support the Central Government,” said Roliyanus.

With the presence of nickel mining in West Papua, the community’s economy has become more prosperous and infrastructure development has improved.

“We hope that nickel mining will soon be introduced to West Papua so that we can encourage our children to work and earn a regional income or a daily income,” he said.

Roliyanus also expressed his appreciation for the government’s efforts to ensure that nickel mining in Raja Ampat, with proper management, can contribute significantly to the local community.

“Therefore, I really appreciate and fully support the Central Government’s efforts in developing nickel in Raja Ampat, West Papua,” Roliyanus concluded.
