Papua – A traditional leader has reiterated his support for the central government’s nickel mining policy in Papua, particularly in Raja Ampat. Roliyanus Tapatkeding, the head of Tanah Tabi, expressed his full commitment and support for the government’s infrastructure and nickel development plans.

According to Roliyanus, the presence of the nickel sector will provide direct benefits to local communities, particularly in terms of basic infrastructure development and job creation.

“I strongly support the Central Government’s efforts to bring nickel infrastructure to Papua, specifically West Papua, by helping us repair damaged road and bridge infrastructure,” Roliyanus said.

He also believes that nickel mining investment will have a significant impact on addressing the still-high unemployment rate in his region. Therefore, accelerating the implementation of mine management is crucial.

“This nickel development can help us reduce unemployment in Raja Ampat. We fully support the Central Government,” Roliyanus emphasized.

Ondoafi Roliyanus also hopes that the nickel mining project will be realized soon so that young people in the area have job opportunities and a decent income.

“We hope that this nickel development will soon reach West Papua so that we can encourage our children to work and earn a daily income,” said Roliyanus.

He added that the presence of the nickel industry not only brings economic benefits, but will also support efforts to improve the quality of life of the community through social programs.

Equitable development involving indigenous communities as active partners will strengthen their sense of ownership and minimize the potential for social conflict in the future.

Furthermore, Roliyanus invited all parties not to view mining as a threat, but as an opportunity that must be managed wisely, prioritizing the preservation of the Papuan environment and culture.

“I truly appreciate and fully support the Central Government’s efforts to develop nickel mining in Raja Ampat, West Papua,” said Roliyanus.

The government itself has stated its commitment to managing natural resources in Papua sustainably and fairly, while still paying attention to the environment and the rights of indigenous peoples.
