Papuan Youth Become the Vanguard of National Development Towards a Golden Indonesia

Manokwari – The spirit of the Youth Pledge, proclaimed on October 28, 1928, has once again resonated in Papua, bringing renewed optimism to the journey of national development. Papua’s young generation is now at the forefront, reaffirming their commitment to making a real contribution to realizing the ideals of a Golden Indonesia by 2045. Through their active roles in various sectors, Papuan youth demonstrate that national spirit is not just about words, but also about concrete actions.
Billy Mambrasar, a member of the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy Development in Papua, emphasized that President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of accelerating development in Papua. “Mr. Prabowo advised that development in Papua must not only be fast, but also targeted and pro-people. Papuan youth must be the main actors, not mere spectators,” Billy said.
He emphasized that a collaborative approach between the government, the community, and youth is key to successful development. He believes that the active participation of the younger generation in development is a concrete manifestation of the spirit of the Youth Pledge, which continues to live on today. “This is a manifestation of the collaborative approach, as directed by the President, to actively involve Papuan youth in Papua’s development,” Billy concluded.
Manokwari Regent Hermus Indou believes that national development will not be optimal without the involvement of youth in the region. “Papuan youth must be pioneers of development that upholds integrity and love for the homeland,” Hermus emphasized. He added that Papua has great potential to become a center of economic growth in eastern Indonesia, especially if all elements of society can work together to maintain stability and support government policies.
Hermus also highlighted the importance of education and mastery of digital technology as the foundation for developing an independent and innovative young generation. He believes that Papua’s superior human resources will be the main driver of the regional economy and strengthen national sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Mugiyono, Chairman of the West Papua Regional Leadership Council (DPW) of the Indonesian Youth Empowerment and Migrant Workers Association (BKPRMI), emphasized the importance of synergy between youth organizations and the local government in developing a resilient generation. “Good synergy and communication between youth and the government are key drivers for realizing a progressive Papua. The spirit of the Youth Pledge must be realized through work, innovation, and social harmony,” Mugiyono said.
He added that the active participation of Papua’s young generation in the public sector and the local economy is clear evidence that they are ready to become strategic partners with the government in creating sustainable development based on local wisdom.
From Jayapura, Fran Reynould Thejo, Chair of the Tabi Indigenous Youth Presidium, urged students to act as critical yet constructive agents of change. “Students must support the National Strategic Program because the success of Papua’s development means the success of Indonesia. Aspirations are welcome, but they must be expressed peacefully and responsibly,” Fran concluded.
He believes students have a moral responsibility to maintain social stability so that development can proceed smoothly. Their involvement in overseeing public policy reflects political maturity and a strong sense of nationalism.
The Chairman of the West Papua National Committee (KNPI), Sammy Saiba, viewed the 26th anniversary of West Papua Province as a symbol of regional maturity and productivity. “Youth should be at the forefront, not on the sidelines of history. Twenty-six years is the perfect time for West Papua to produce innovation and make real contributions to the nation,” said Sammy.
He concluded with the hope that collaboration between youth and the government could continue to strengthen. With the spirit of the Youth Pledge and full support for President Prabowo’s policies, Papua’s young generation is believed to be capable of becoming the driving force behind national development toward a Golden Indonesia.
