Police Commissioner Yade Setiawan Ujung Receives Doctorate Degree at Unpad After Presenting Dissertation on Handling Covid-19
Police Commissioner (Kombes Pol) Yade Setiawan Ujung, SH, SIK, M.Si succeeded in obtaining a doctorate from Padjadjaran University after successfully defending his dissertation.
In the open doctoral promotion session held in the Postgraduate Program Meeting Room, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Padjadjaran University, Police Commissioner Ujung delivered a dissertation entitled “Evaluation of the Nusa II Safe Operation Policy in Handling Covid-19 by the Bandung Police”.
The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. R. Widya Setiabudi Sumadinata, with promoter Prof. Dr. Muradi, SS, M.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. The co-promoter in the trial was Dr. Drs. Asep Sumaryana, M.Si and Dr. Dedi Sukarno, S.IP., M.Sc.
In his presentation, Police Commissioner Ujung highlighted the handling of Covid-19 by the Police in the Bandung Region in early 2020 which had not had a significant impact. In fact, the police have carried out Operation Safe Nusa II in order to control the virus which was first discovered in the city of Wuhan, China.
“Operation Aman Nusa II has not been able to significantly flatten the curve of the spread of Covid-19,” said Police Commissioner Ujung on Thursday (4/4)
He also tried to research this and develop an Evaluation Theory in evaluating the policy for handling Covid-19 Safe Operation Nusa II by the Bandung Police.
The doctoral student then explained that the success of Operation Safe Nusa II only occurred because of policy changes.
“The success of Operation Safe Nusa II was due to a change in policy with the addition of a vaccination program which was prioritized by the Bandung Police in 2021,” explained Police Commissioner Ujung.
He views that the effectiveness of the operation is seen from the success of vaccination distribution, the ability to contain the spread of the Delta variant of Covid-19, increased community participation, and the sloping curve of the spread of Covid-19
Not only that, Kombes Pol Ujung also emphasized the importance of developing public policy evaluation models that can analyze complex programs or policies such as the CIPP+U model proposed in his research.
Meanwhile, Professor Asep as Co-Promoter of Kombes Pol Ujung, appreciated the research and Evaluation Theory initiated by his students. According to him, Operation Safe Nusa II is one of the police operations in handling the Covid-19 pandemic, which is the first to occur in the world.
“It is hoped that the results of this research can become a reference in handling non-natural disasters such as the Covid-19 pandemic,” he continued.
