Pope Francis Arrives in Indonesia for Historic Visit
Jakarta – Indonesia welcomed Pope Francis on a historic visit that is expected to bring a message of peace and unity. Pope Francis landed at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, at around 11:30 a.m., greeted by a number of high-ranking state officials and religious leaders.
Pope Francis’ visit is a historic moment for Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country but also home to a significant Catholic community. The visit aims to strengthen interfaith ties and promote dialogue and cooperation amid Indonesia’s cultural and religious diversity.
During his visit to Indonesia, Pope Francis will carry out a series of activities, including attending Holy Mass at the Bung Karno Stadium (GBK), as well as meeting with various local communities. He will also visit several important places that have spiritual and historical significance for Catholics in Indonesia.
Minister of Religious Affairs, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, admitted that he was happy with the presence of Pope Francis. Because according to him, not all countries are visited by the highest leader of the Catholic Church in the world.
Yaqut also considered Pope Francis’ visit as a sign of the close relationship between Indonesia and the Vatican.
“This shows a very close relationship between Indonesia and the Vatican. Why is that, because not all countries have been visited by the Pope, even Argentina, his home country, has not been visited by him,” said Yaqut
Yaqut added that Pope Francis’ visit would bring a message of peace.
“This shows that the message, there is a message that wants to be conveyed. Differences are normal, that’s it. So there is nothing to question with differences. And I think and this Pope reflects the message of togetherness among differences,” said Yaqut.
The entire series of events will take place with strict security protocols to ensure the safety of Pope Francis and all parties involved. This visit is a historic moment that will be remembered by the Indonesian people and the international community as a real example of a commitment to peace and unity.
