Post-Election Reconciliation Realizes Democratic Regional Elections
By: Mika Putri Larasati
Reconciliation between parties in the momentum following the implementation of the General Election (Pemilu) was able to make the Simultaneous Pilkada event in November 2024 much more democratic.
Of course, democratization in every implementation of political contestation at every scale, whether nationally or regionally, is something that must continue to be realized because democracy itself will show what the ideals of the Indonesian nation are even in the eyes of the world.
When the image of the Indonesian nation in the eyes of the world is realized well by high levels of democratization, it is not impossible that the dignity, rank and dignity of this country will also improve. Therefore, reconciliation between parties is important in order to ensure the continuity of the upcoming regional elections.
Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU), Hasyim Asy’ari said that all elements must contribute actively to fully support the implementation of the 2024 Regional Head Election.
Several things indicate that there is full support between these elements, namely when the situation and conditions in society are always safe , orderly and democratic. These indicators are clearly very important and good provisions for the successful implementation of regional elections.
Apart from that, the awareness and active participation of all elements of society in the regional elections will also fully support the realization of quality democracy in this country.
Not without reason, community participation or the activities of a person or group of people who actively participate in political life through elections, either directly or indirectly, will clearly have a big influence on the policies of the next government.
Awareness of public participation in the upcoming November 2024 Regional Head Election clearly plays an important role in building a higher quality national democracy, because this principle requires active participation of the people in making political decisions.
Public awareness of the importance of local or regional democracy is one of the foundations for continuing to build democratic principles that are responsible for the interests of the people, so that whoever is later elected or officially occupies the position of Regional Head is someone who cares about the people.
After the General Election (Pemilu) in February 2024, now the Indonesian people will prepare to face the Pilkada in November 2024. This requires all parties, including regional election organizers, security officers and the public, to realize the democratic party in a democratic manner.
According to the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia (Wapres RI), KH Ma’ruf Amin, it is good to carry out Regional Head Elections when they can take place democratically, then uphold the principles of honesty and fairness (jurdil).
Everything can actually go very well if it complies with all existing rules. If the entire implementation of the regional elections can run according to existing regulations and continue to uphold democratic values, then the process will run according to expectations.
When honest and fair regional elections can occur, the nation will be safe. Moreover, the experience of holding previous democratic parties in Indonesia, including elections, should enable all parties to play an active role in maintaining a safe situation. In other words, democratic regional elections will be realized if there is post-election reconciliation between various parties.
Executive Director of Grassroots Strategic Consulting (ARSC), Dimas Oky Nugroho really appreciates the attitude of statesmanship and efforts to embrace all political parties (Parpol) again after the 2024 General Election.
This attitude indicates that togetherness and reconciliation are indeed important to realize Indonesia as a country. which is much more advanced. Because every country that wants to progress and prosper in the landscape of a pluralistic and democratic society, political reconciliation must occur to manage conflict and avoid potential feuds.
The existence of reconciliation itself is actually very in line with how the democratic philosophy is implemented in Indonesia because it adheres to mutual cooperation democracy, so that the check and balance process is through the mechanisms of the existing constitutional law system.
This makes deliberation for consensus a characteristic of democracy in Indonesia, so that the establishment of democracy in the country is certainly an indicator of reconciliation.
After the General Election and ahead of the November 2024 Regional Election, this is the most appropriate moment to be able to close and end all gaps in fighting each other among the nation’s children in the name of upholding democracy and the integrity of the country.
The coming together of these various parties will be able to further expedite the process of changing or circulating leadership if someone is chosen who will hold the mandate of the people in order to create a more prosperous Indonesia.
Therefore, reconciliation of all elements of the nation during the post-election momentum and leading up to the regional elections like now is very important and is the key to holding more democratic regional head elections because in it society is no longer confined by sharp differences or polarization and able to do politics with common sense.
