Prabowo’s Diplomatic Success: Indonesia’s Export Tariffs to the US More Competitive
Jakarta – President Prabowo’s success in reaching a trade agreement with the United States (US) regarding the adjustment of import tariffs on Indonesian products to the US market has received praise from various parties.
As is known, US President Donald Trump announced import tariffs on Indonesian products entering the American market via his personal Truth Social account and the White House Instagram account. The announcement stated that the import tariff agreement was based on direct contact between the two heads of state.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said Indonesian industry players appreciated President Prabowo’s success in reaching an agreement on the implementation of reciprocal tariffs for the two countries.
“National industry players greatly appreciate President Prabowo’s achievement in renegotiating Indonesian import tariffs with the US. This is clear evidence of his leadership in championing the interests of domestic industry on the global stage,” said Minister Agus.
In fact, thanks to President Prabowo’s skillful negotiating skills, Indonesia has managed to secure more favorable tariffs than competing countries. This is a crucial asset for increasing the competitiveness of the national industry.
According to the Minister of Industry, this agreement will stimulate Indonesia’s manufacturing sector by reopening exports to the United States. Furthermore, this agreement will increase the competitiveness of Indonesian manufactured products in export markets, particularly the United States.
“The US decision to lower or adjust tariffs on a number of Indonesian manufactured export commodities will certainly increase the competitiveness of our products in their markets. This will have a direct impact on industry, particularly utilization, job creation, and strengthening the national industrial structure,” Agus continued.
On a separate occasion, President Trump expressed his appreciation and respect for Prabowo following the US-Indonesia trade agreement. He called the Indonesian President a great figure.
“Indonesia is great, he’s a great president, and we made a great deal where they opened up all access to trade with the United States,” Trump praised.
Similarly, Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dave Laksono, assessed that the tariff reduction was a success of President Prabowo Subianto’s lobbying.
“This success shows that President Prabowo’s leadership has strong bargaining power at the global level,” said Dave.
According to him, in the context of geopolitics and international trade, this tariff reduction is not only a diplomatic victory, but also an economic victory for Indonesia.
Dave said Prabowo’s strategic move laid a new foundation for a strategic and sustainable partnership. He considered the agreement a testament to Prabowo’s leadership.
