President Calls for SOEs to Grow as Modern and Clean Corporations
Jakarta — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, called for State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) to continue transforming into modern, transparent, and clean corporations. In his direction, the Head of State emphasized the importance of work efficiency and the best service to the community in every activity of the state corporation.
“Indonesia is currently in a momentum of revival. We are in an atmosphere full of optimism and working hard. Therefore, I remind all officials, all officers in BUMN to start and continue an efficient way of working, providing services with the best, transparent, clean management,” said President Prabowo.
The President emphasized that BUMN officials and employees have a great responsibility to manage state resources optimally and efficiently. He reminded that BUMN is not merely a business corporation, but also a development agent that must provide the greatest possible benefits to the Indonesian people.
The President’s encouragement also serves as a reminder for SOEs not to get caught up in unaccountable management practices. He emphasized that good governance must be the foundation of every policy-making process in SOEs.
Responding to the President’s direction, Member of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PKS Faction, Jalal Abdul Nasir, stated that synergy between directors and commissioners is a key factor in encouraging BUMN to become an accountable and globally competitive entity. He reminded that every policy and project step carried out must remain based on the long-term interests of the country.
“BUMN should not only pursue short-term business profits. There needs to be a solid and sustainable vision so that BUMN’s role brings positive impacts to society and the nation in the long term,” said Jalal.
Meanwhile, the President Director of Mining Industry Holding MIND ID, Maroef Sjam-soeddin, emphasized that his company has implemented the principles of good mining governance (Good Mining Practice/GMP) as an operational basis. According to him, sustainability is part of the company’s long-term strategy in supporting national economic growth.
“MIND ID strives to ensure that operations are in accordance with good mining governance, so that the added value of the downstreaming program can be felt by all parties, including from the social and environmental side,” explained Maroef.
He also said that MIND ID as a driver of national mineral resource downstreaming, does not only focus on corporate profits, but also on its strategic role in Indonesia’s economic development.
The transformation of BUMN into a clean, modern, and globally competitive corporation is indeed an important agenda for the government going forward. With good governance and optimal resource management, BUMN is expected to be the main driving force in realizing the vision of Advanced Indonesia. [-red]
