President Jokowi met with a number of ASEAN leaders at the 43rd ASEAN Summit (KTT) or ASEAN SUMMIT in Jakarta. Apart from discussing ASEAN’s central issues, President Jokowi’s meeting with world leaders demonstrated Indonesia’s commitment to making ASEAN the world epicenter.
In his introduction, President Jokowi stressed that as a family and as Chair of ASEAN, the unity of ASEAN is still well maintained. The definition of unity according to President Jokowi as for Indonesia is a harmony in diversity, including differences of opinion. Because differences of opinion actually foster democracy and show that we as a family have an equal position.
This equality is actually the main value that should be respected and upheld together in the framework of unity and togetherness so that ASEAN’s big ship can continue to move forward.
The seventh President of Indonesia also revealed that the world is not doing well, so that the challenges ahead will be increasingly difficult and there will be a struggle for influence by big powers. However, ASEAN has agreed not to become a proxy for any power to cooperate with anyone for peace and prosperity.
At the opening, Indonesia invited ASEAN countries not to turn ASEAN ships into an arena of mutually destructive rivalries, but to make ASEAN ships a field for growing cooperation, creating prosperity, stability and peace, not only for the region but also for the world.
Just as the world’s oceans are too wide to be sailed alone. On the way there will definitely be other ships. The ships are ASEAN partner ships. Indonesia also invites all ASEAN countries to jointly realize equal and mutually beneficial cooperation, sailing together towards the Epicentrum of Growth.
ASEAN unity must continue to be strengthened to be able to play a role in peace and economic growth. As the global economy has not yet fully recovered, ASEAN must be a motor of peace and economic growth. The key is unity, so that ASEAN becomes a central player in global peace and economic growth.
Previously. The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo gave a speech at the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) meeting which took place in Jakarta, 4 September 2023. During the meeting, President Jokowi emphasized the importance for ASEAN to prepare extraordinary tactics to face current global challenges . According to the President, ASEAN has great potential for economic growth.
The existence of ASEAN has a number of positive impacts felt from this association. Until 2022, ASEAN members will add another six countries to a total of eleven member countries. The six countries in question are Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Timor Leste. Indonesia itself has served as Chair of ASEAN three times (1976, 2003, 2011) and has produced proven achievements that can encourage the progress of ASEAN countries.
Carrying the main theme entitled ‘”ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”, there are at least a number of goals that the Government wants to achieve. In this theme, the Government emphasized that Indonesia wants to make ASEAN remain important and relevant to the ASEAN community and the world. This is because, Indonesia wants to make ASEAN a region that has an important role, for regional countries and the world. Both play a central role as the engine of peace and prosperity in the region. In addition, Indonesia also wants to make ASEAN a center for regional and world economic growth.
The people in Jakarta are also committed to continuing to support the ASEAN Summit because it is very profitable for them. Because, the arrival of the delegation is proof that Jakarta is still safe to visit even though the air conditions are not good. With the arrival of these heads of state, it is hoped that all parties, including the people of Jakarta, will become more concerned with environmental issues.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has also set a strategy to participate in the success of the 43rd ASEAN Summit. One way is to implement work from home (WFH) capacity of 50% for state civil servants (ASN) within the Jakarta Provincial Government. The decision to implement WFH for ASN is also supported by Circular Letter No.17/2023 concerning Adjustment of the Work System for State Civil Apparatus Employees with Offices in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta During the Preparation and Implementation Period for the 43rd ASEAN Summit 2023 which has been signed Minister of PAN-RB in Jakarta on Wednesday (16/8).
The implementation of the 43rd ASEAN Summit is the grand event that the community has been waiting for. Apart from being proof that the Government is capable of holding international-scale meetings, this momentum has proven to be able to demonstrate Indonesia’s commitment to making ASEAN the world epicenter.
